Just a little update on Guzman. Apparently he has begun throwing off a mound, and could possibly be ready by opening day. Its a long shot he pitches like he did in 2009, but if hes fully healthy on opening day, our bullpen could be really damn good.

Angel Guzman threw off a mound Friday for the second time since undergoing shoulder surgery last March.

Not surprisingly, he's not throwing close to full speed yet, but he's making progress. Barring a setback, Guzman should be ready by the time Opening Day rolls around. He posted a 2.95 ERA and 1.05 WHIP over 55 appearances in 2009 and would give the Cubbies a top notch setup man assuming he's made a full recovery, which is a legitimate question given the serious nature of the procedure and his history of injuries.

Ben Christiansen would've been our 5th.

Brownlie and his outlaw curve.

damn. Bobby Brownlie. There's a guy I doubt I ever would have thought of again if I hadn't clicked on this thread.

I am hoping and praying he stays healthy and fullfills his potential.

too late for that. I'm just hoping he can contribute at this point.

yeah, I think that train left the station 5 years ago.

LOL this is what we have been hoping for what seems like the last 10 years. He seems like he has been around longer than anyone else on the team.

I wanted to say I hope he doesn't pull a Prior or even say we should get a calendar and through money into a pot betting and day and time of his next injury, but I didn't want to sound to pessimistic so early in the season.

Guzman has been added to the Peoria roster with hopes of being on the major league roster in July.

Great news. In a season of crap, at least there's something to root for. He's been through a lot (the injuries, his brother's death, the injuries), so it would be great to see him make it back.

When he comes up in July it will be like we made a trade!

All joking aside, I hope he can make it back.
