Martz has the same kind of confidence Mike Tice has in the rebuilt line. He praised center Roberto Garza and took notice of quick strides made by rookie right tackle Gabe Carimi while making it clear it's unlikely new center Chris Spencer will see game action Sept. 11 against the Falcons.

Cutler looks to have lost a good 15-20 lbs this offseason.

Apparently he's worked hard on his footwork this offseason.

Hester is apparently running great routes, and there's a belief that he's really going to be a very good WR this year across from Roy. It's all about route running with Martz.

There is no reason at all the Bears would be interested in trading Knox unless they got an offer to blow them away. Why would you trade cheap production? Err...other than Greg Olsen...but that was at least a 3rd round pick.

In Brad Biggs' article this morning, he implies that Knox will ask for a trade if he isn't a starter by week 1. I don't know what leverage he'd have to ask for a trade.

The latest quotes make it sound like the Bears aren't all that thrilled with the prep effort that Knox puts in.

He got the job thanks to his speed, they admitted late last season that Bennett should have played more, he made numerous mistakes while route running, and sat out practice with a back issue this week. The coaches definitely seem to be coming down hard on the guy and I doubt it was just because they felt like it. If Knox is already threatening to leave, with his miniscule track record in the NFL, I have to question whether the guy has his head on straight.

FWIW, one of Jurko or Harry relayed a story the other day that they had heard about Knox falling asleep during positional meetings.

Damn, I was hoping Knox would stick around for a while. Hopefully the season starts and he realizes he will get a lot of balls thrown his way still.

Cutler on the loss of Kreutz, and leadership...

“The longer I have been here, the more vocal I have gotten,” Cutler said Thursday on "The Mully & Hanley Show" on WSCR-AM 670. “It happens over time. With Olin gone, I know I have to step into more of a leadership role because we have a pretty young offense still.

“He is very aggressive and he’ll intimidate you in a heartbeat,” Cutler said of Kreutz. “A lot of the younger guys probably felt like that, and I’d love to have Olin back. He is an unbelievable player and did a lot for this organization, but I think the time and place we’re at right now, it gives a lot of those younger guys an opportunity to blossom a little bit and take some ownership in their play.”

On the center position:

“Right now, and I don’t really see it changing, I want to stick with Garza,” Cutler said. “I’ve had veteran centers my whole career and luckily enough Garza is veteran enough to know what’s going on and be able to handle it in a mature and professional way. I couldn’t be happier with him.

“(There is) a lot of potential to be a really good line. Whether it happens Week 1 or later in the season, that is yet to be determined.”

On the offense needing to get better:

"If I was the defense I'd be so mad at the offense, I wouldn't be able to look at us," Cutler said. "Looking at the film, it was embarrassing, I was watching it with Mike (Martz) and I have no idea how we won games and it was because of the defense, they were a Super Bowl defense. Without a doubt, they had everything to go to a Super Bowl and win a Super Bowl, so offensively we got to pick it up, there's no other option, we've got to get better, we got to help those guys out and do our part."

This points out a lot of what I've thought about Kreutz in recent years. He wanted to be a leader and did his best to be a leader, but in the end he was really just a bully, a dumb jock bully. His leadership was more about his Alpha male personality than anything football related.

It was quite a tactful response from Cutler, really.

So Martz has "Aromashadu'd" Knox. Great.

I don't think that's the case at all. Martz wouldn't address Aromashadu's situation at all. And hidden in the Martz criticism of Knox is a lot of compliments. I think this is all a way for the Bears to try to light a fire under Knox's butt. Nothing wrong with that. Knox will still see plenty of playing time.

Having just lived through Richmond's year at UI and now hearing more about the kid, I'm more inclined than I used to be to listen to the coaches when they talk about stuff like this.

"I’m a Bear, and I want to stay a Bear for life," Knox said.

Knox wasn’t surprised about such speculation after Williams replaced him as the "X" receiver in offensive coordinator Mike Martz’s scheme. He admitted being frustrated by the decision but vowed to work hard to regain his starting role.

"I could see where people were coming from, but it was basically people trying to stir something up," Knox said of the trade talk.

Yeah that works.

I don't see any way he ends up on the Bears.

You're probably right, but I wouldn't be entirely opposed to a trade centered around Evans and Knox.
