Who says vegetarians don't eat Little Debbie snacks?

Off topic: many snack cakes (twinkies, ding-dongs, suzy-Qs, etc.) contain beef fat and/or gelatin, so most vegetarians actually do avoid them.

On topic: I'm on board with Prince coming to Chicago, but I don't see it happening.

I'm on board with Prince, too.

I'm just way more on board with Pujols and when I hear someone say not that they'd like Prince if we can't get Pujols, but that they'd actually prefer Prince over Pujols, I feel the need to argue about it.

edit - also, I like arguing about body composition, apparently.

You should have known better. Laywers are an infestation on this board; and we're all pompous enough to want to talk about it.

Yes, but why would you want to talk about going to law school (or being able to go, but not going)?? It's like somebody gloating about having a journalism degree.

Hey, I have one of those too!

that was not subtle

you beat me to it

but anyway, i would not look back in regret about that decision. LSAT and law school are easy, but what comes after kind of sucks for a good 80% of people. HOWEVER, if anyone make it work it is CT

that's how i justify that decision and make myself feel better about it.

if my work ethic sucks now, there's no way in hell i'd be able to handle the workload of law school, much less actually being an attorney.

Law school is awful . . . but also kind of great. The workload is over-stated.

Its better than actually practicing law.... :-)

Since I refused to watch the last two innings has Albert declared he has accomplished even with St Louis and its time for a new test now?

Pujols combined regular and postseason for 2011:

165 games

304/376/556

I understand a little power loss, but where did the walks go?

2008 ibb: 38

2009 ibb: 44

2010 ibb: 34

2011 ibb: 15

there's some of them.

Decline! Run for the hills!

Whether you choose to acknowledge them or not, there are definitely warning signs with some of Pujols's 2011 peripherals:

Walk rate

2008 - 16.2%

2009 - 16.4%

2010 - 14.7%

2011 - 9.4%

Strikeout-to-walk ratio

2008 - 0.52

2009 - 0.56

2010 - 0.74

2011 - 0.95

Extra-base hit percentage

2008 - 12.6%

2009 - 13.3%

2010 - 11.7%

2011 - 10.1%

Ground ball to fly ball ratio

2008 - 0.68

2009 - 0.63

2010 - 0.61

2011 - 0.81

It's not just fewer walks. It's also more strikeouts, more ground balls, and fewer extra-base hits.

It could all just be a result of him "stressing" about his contract year or whatever, but there is definitely some cause for concern for any front office pursuing a guy who's going to be 32 on Opening Day 2012 who just put up career-worst results in a handful notable secondary metrics.

How much does Matt Holliday account for drop in intentional and slightly-less intentional walks? When Albert is the only impact bat in the lineup, it's easy to pitch around him 3 times a game. Pujols also had about 50 fewer PAs this year than the last 2.

And he was just not as good (.200 drop in OPS). So that probably accounts for the decreased fear of giving him something to hit too, esp with Holliday and Berkman behind him.

Finally, and maybe most likely, Ryan Theriot convinced him that being a slap hitter that doesn't walk is where it's at.

Maybe the article is wrong but the header says Pojuls buys Cpt. America on DVD. Good God man I hope it's wrong, the guy makes tens of millions of dollars a year, he sure as hell better have an 80 inch 25 thou 3D plasma and bluray player.

http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/how-will-prince-fielder-age/

Fangraphs weighs in (get it?) on the aging curve of heavy players.

Thanks. Good analysis and date. However, the conclusion -- "Either way, it is clear that his best days are behind him" -- is, well, speculative at best. Sorry, that's not "clear"; it may be likely, it may be supported by the evidence. But it's not "clear." Unless fangraphs has also developed the ability to see the future. Not that my complaint defeats the overall thesis, it does no such thing, but that is some poor (arrogant?) word usage.

Maybe it's not clear. But it's as close to clear as you can get. Even the best players in the game have to adhere to the natural rule of age. And even though Pojuls will continue to be great, he is past his prime years.
