Gotta love any stat that lists Jay Cutler as "Below Average" and groups him with such studs as Shaun Hill, Jason Campbell, Matt Hasselbeck, Chad Henne, Donovan McNabb, Sam Bradford and Alex Smith.

Football Outsiders ranks McNabb, Hill, Henne ahead of him last year.

FO counts sacks as passes. Which obviously is a big hindrance for Jay, given the OL.

Okay but Detroit's pass protection was worse (last in the league) and Washington's was only 5 spots ahead of the Bears.

Donovan was sacked 37 times.

Hill was sacked 17 times.

Cutler was sacked 52 times.

just tell him that "yes, we know, the bears suck" and we can go on with things, here.

that's moronic and indisputably wrong

i'd definitely buy our run blocking being amongst the worst, but pass pro was actually a relative strength from an offensive line standpoint

Ha...I didn't even go look it up. FO has Detroit's pass protection at 4th best in the league. Washington was 22nd. Bears were 32nd.

Hawkeye was looking at run blocking. Pass protection is in blue.

and that makes sense

the low total of sacks the OL gave up becomes more impressive when you take Drew Stanton's mental retardation into account

whilst on the topic of pass blocking, PFF rated Omiyale and Webb 4th- and 1st-worst at their positions and Williams and Garza 8th- and 17th-worst (amongst all guards). Kreutz ranked 9th-best for centers, however

There isn't a single person anywhere including at Football Outsiders that would take Shaun Hill, Chad Henne, et. al. over Jay Cutler.

If we let hawkeyecub or Erik draft a bears team from scratch, they would.

Of course not.

UM said that new ESPN QB Rating showed those guys in the same category as him and I just pointed out that FO's numbers also had a couple of those guys ahead of him. That doesn't mean they're better or that anyone would take those guys over Cutler, just that different stats said those guys had an equivalent or better season than he did last year.

And it seems the one 'stat' you pointed to is swayed heavily by 1 factor largely outside of his control.

Mark Schlereth might.

He said person, as in human, not neanderthal.

Story that depresses me:

The Eagles are still almost $8 million under the cap.

Some writers have said that Eagles people are telling them that's false. King got it wrong.

FOX will announce the following pairings for its football hierarchy: (1) Joe Buck and Troy Aikman; (2) Kenny Albert, Daryl Johnston, and Tony Siragusa; (3) Thom Brennaman and Brian Billick; (4) Dick Stockton and John Lynch; (5) Chris Myers and Tim Ryan; (6) Ron Pitts and Jim Mora; and (7) Sam Rosen and Chad Pennington. Newcomer Gus Johnson and Charles Davis will periodically supplement their college football duties with a pro game.
