on the topic of "Bill Jamesing" football: what do you guys think about efforts to do this? personally, i think that advanced metrics applied to teams as a whole (pass efficiency, run efficiency, GWP, all that) is great. getting down to individual players is much more difficult. there are so many things that go on in every snap. i do think that quarterbacks are easier to evaluate than other positions (RBs especially).

i'm a pretty big fan of http://www.advancednflstats.com. i really love the WP graphs, and i'm a big proponent of GWP. i have noticed that some of you, who are into advanced baseball metrics, stay away from advanced NFL metrics. i would like to know why.

Completely agree with the team vs. individual distinction. I doubt there will ever be a metric that'll capture as much about an individual player (outside of QB maybe) as even OPS does for a baseball player. But I'm in favor of it overall and I actually think the NFL is adopting it as a tool faster than MLB did.

I like ProFootballFocus. Stats like these are pretty solid.

There are 3 corners in the NFL that are holding opposing QBs to a rating under 50: Tramon Williams, Joe Haden and Asante Samuel.

This is also a really good one, considering I actually wanted to draft Mays in a later round last year. Joke's on me.

QBs have a 144.4 QB rating when throwing into the coverage of Taylor Mays. Worst mark for a safety in the NFL this season.

Is Drake referring to Turner?

"I talk to Brandon Lloyd once or twice or week. He was probably talking about some other people," Drake said. "We had a great relationship when he was here, and we still have a great relationship. We still have an unbelievable relationship. That was blown out of proportion. ... They should have asked him who specifically he was talking about."

"I'm proud of Brandon Lloyd," Drake said. "I always thought Brandon Lloyd had talent. I'm glad that (Denver) used him, that he stayed healthy, and that he showcased his talents."

He played in Chicago, but after some early success they didn't seem to throw much his way. Orton was the starter. Or is this simply nothing to do with the Bears?

i'm not sure what the implication is here. is he implying that lloyd had some negative comments about turner? that would be dumb considering he was recruited by turner into turner's offensive system at illinois, had a lot of success in turner's system while at illinois, and did pretty well when he was healthy with the bears.

I think the implication is that Drake thinks he was underutlized in previous stops, and I'm wondering if he's referring to the Bears. He played most games but was rarely used.

The Vikings signed Iglesias off our practice squad. I'm not thrilled about that.

it certainly took someone long enough to do it.

He'll get one game on Minny's 53-man, and then his future will be fairly uncertain. There's going to be a lot of turnover on that team between now and the opening of camp next Summer, in all likelihood.

Neither are the Bears, according to the trib article about it.

I'd definitely take a look at Rice. He's had a bad year with the injury and the QB mess in Minnesota. He seems like a good candidate to a sign a 1 year incentive laden deal with the hopes of signing a bigger contract after that.

this is pretty much where i stand. i expect atlanta will blow out carolina so that we know hours in advance that our game is meaningless and that we shouldn't use a real gameplan/play the starters, yet we get beat by enough that people still take it as proof that the bears aren't any good.

The Chicago Bears maintain they plan to play their starters for the duration Sunday, when they face the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field, but multiple team sources revealed the staff has told some of the key backups to be ready.

Article says that Kellen Davis and Khalil Bell could see time. I wonder if Dez Clark will be out there.

We still have Dez? Where has he been?

I know it's each team's fault when you are on the outside looking in, but it has to really suck to be the team on the outside and seeing a team like the Bears end up playing their back up squad most of the game/forfeiting victory.

Remembering what the Giants did to our offense earlier in the season, I suppose it doesn't really hurt my feelings any to see them standing at the window in the freezing cold begging for someone, anyone to open the door.
