I'm going to take the unpopular opinion (SHOCKING!) and say that I don't really hate Stone as an analyst. My first choice would be Keith Moreland, but I'd take Stone if you can't get Moreland here.

Grace is my favorite player. I would love to see him doing Cubs games, but I don't see why he would move to radio.

I could easily see radio in Chicago being a better gig than TV in Arizona.

Any media gig in Chicago has to be better than anything in Arizona. Half the people in Arizona look to other cities for their sports anyway.

If youre a warm weather fan like me, AZ has its appeal. But the DBacks dont have the loyal fanbase like Chicago.

I can't see very many people giving up a tv gig for a radio gig.

The search for a new radio commentator for Cubs baseball will not include two former North Side pitchers. Rick Sutcliffe and Dan Plesac will not be involved in the search for a replacement for the late Ron Santo.

Sutcliffe, who expressed interest in the job, is about to re-sign with ESPN to do 40 games as color commentator, according to a major league source. That TV schedule would preclude the former Cubs ace from doing a 162-schedule with play-by-play man Pat Hughes. Sutcliffe has been working for ESPN over the past few years. He pitched for the Cubs from 1984-91.

Plesac, a Northwest Indiana native, has become a star commentator on MLB television. The former Cubs reliever is going into his third year and his contract is through Aug., 2011. The always insightful Plesac would have been a popular choice with his background as a pregame and postgame analyst for Cubs baseball on Comcast SportsNet. He pitched for the Cubs in 1993-94 as part of his 20-year career.

The other names on the list that will draw strong consideration are Keith Moreland, Dave Otto and Gary Matthews.

I'm sad to not see Glanville on that supposed shortlist, dismayed but not surprised to see Sirott and curious about Sarge. Anyone know how tolerable he is on the Philly broadcasts?

Sutcliffe and Plesac would have been terrible. I hope they aren't serious about Otto.

This. Otto is just awful. I mean Joe Carter was even better than Otto, and Carter was abysmal. I don't listen to the radio much, but I'd rather watch Gamecast or listen to the other team's guys than Dave Otto.

Sarge is just plain out terrible. Nothing good to say about him.

It is across the board consensus that Otto is terrible. I really don't understand why everybody feels that way. Otto is kind of funny IMO and he isn't an egomaniac since he stunk as a player. I like the idea of giving Otto a chance.

Cubs.com says "keep waiting"

CHICAGO -- The Cubs and WGN Radio will not announce Ron Santo's replacement as color analyst at this weekend's Cubs Convention.

There were reports that a new broadcaster would be named at the winter fan fest, which begins Friday at the Hilton Chicago. Instead, interviews are continuing and an announcement is expected sometime before Spring Training games begin Feb. 27.

Who will take over for Santo? It most likely will not be former Cubs Mark Grace or Rick Sutcliffe. Grace is currently an analyst for the Diamondbacks and does work for FOX, while Sutcliffe recently signed a new contract with ESPN.

The Cubs and WGN Radio would prefer the analyst be a former Cubs player and want someone who can commit to the full 162-game schedule.

Just make Wood player/analyst.

That would be awesome!

Pat: "Shouldn't they be getting you up in the bullpen about now."

Kerry: "Naw, this guy kills me. I suspect they'll bring in a lefty this inning, and I'll go in the 8th."

Kerry: "That'll have to be it for me today, folks. Just got the call from the dugout. Gotta go start warming up. See ya tomorrow, Pat."

Pat: "Since blowing the lead and sending us into extra-innings, Kerry will be re-joining us as soon as he's had a chance to take a shower..."

Oh God it's gonna be Dave Otto. :( :(

is anyone good going to want the job if wood's just going to replace them in 1-5 years?

Maybe a 3-man radio booth? I have no idea how common this is around baseball.

Somebody who just wants to get his foot in the door with his first on-air gig might take it to gain some experience.
