and i had no feelings whatever about clausen beforehand, i'm simply telling you that he showed nothing, nothing, last year that would lead me to believe that he will do anything in professional football.

obviously, the panthers feel similarly after getting a year of him up close and personal.

The Panthers also thought Jake Delhomme was a starting QB for a number of years that he wasn't. They have a history of misevaluating QBs.

Making a concrete decision on a rookie after one year in which he had no talent around him is overreacting. You may end up being right, but you're still jumping the gun on your evaluation. One year shouldn't make or break any player who has displayed the tools to be successful.

if he had shown ANYTHING, ANYTHING, i would agree with you. but you start to look for a sign that a kid is a football player at some point, and when it doesn't come, you have to draw some conclusions.

like i said, when you play amidst people with no talent and you show nothing, who can you really blame for having no talent?

or they think newton is going to sell tickets, or they're not an organization that should be respected b/c they're [expletive] terrible at this.

how much carolina football did you watch (note: I watched very little, but I watched every snap of Clausen's cfb career and thought he was best served going somewhere that would give him a chance to develop for a few years behind a decent QB - he definitely needed to get bigger and stronger to handle the NFL).

come on, in this world of fantasy football and sunday ticket and drinking heavily on sundays at sports bars, everyone watches everyone nowadays. i saw plenty of clausen, although i wish i hadn't.

it was an honest question. It wasn't a Joe Morgan "i watch the games" statement. I just wanted some frame of reference b/c I couldn't think of any reason anyone but andy would have watched any Panther games (unless the opponent was your favorite team). I think you're just blowing smoke, but whatever. there's no reason to ruin this thread for everyone else.

The Pirates, Clippers, and Raiders are all better organizations than the Panthers. Can't wait til they draft Luck next year.

The JaMarcus Russell and Darrius Heyward-Bey picks disagree with you. At least Carolina picked somebody who had a great year. The Raiders picked a QB who had two good games and a WR who couldn't catch passes.

I find it hilarious that people are actually advocating "tank for next year" as a legitimate strategy.

Also, Christian Ponder at #12? Are there gonna be 8 QBs picked in the first round now?

it's not a strategy. it's not really Carolina's choice.

Between Suh trying to decapitate QBs and Fairley's penchant for drawing personal fouls, I have a feeling the Lions might very well kill someone's QB in the next few years.

The Clippers are a better organization than the Panthers? In what single way?

Blake Griffin.

Exactly my point.

i refuse to give the clippers credit for not screwing up a complete no-brainer.

I don't know - and that's the key. We need to see more of Clausen before making a final decision on him. If you look at only last season, then yeah there's probably not much reason to consider him a viable starting NFL QB. But that's why evaluations should cover more than one season of production.

It's similar to deciding Cashner isn't any good because he struggled in the majors last year and completely ignoring his minor league numbers.

come on, sulley. you know i wasn't asking for the exact number of minutes you watched. i'd just be surprised if anyone that's not a carolina fan or a member of clausen family could say they watched a significant amount of his nfl snaps. you say you have. so you're the 1.

For the Panthers? They don't need to try to tank for next year. They're quite possibly the worst football team since the expansion Bucs.

I wouldn't go THAT far.

i've seen as many as is proper.

really, i like football, and i like watching teams get destroyed, like a mike tyson fight. and the panthers were like watching some hobo fight mike tyson. the thing is, they didn't even have a puncher's chance because clausen has nothing in that arm.
