With the happenings of today's games, Green Bay only needs to beat the Giants and the Bears to make the playoffs. No matter what happens tonight we control our own destiny. Suddenly its not so hopeless.

No, but beating two playoff-caliber teams in back-to-back games won't be an easy task, even though both games are at Lambeau. Even if the Bears win the division before Week 17, they'll likely still be playing for the 2nd seed and a first-round bye in that game.

Certainly no easy task. But its doable. Keeping Rodgers upright against the Giants and the Bears pass rushes will be a huge challenge.

Janikowski just had the first punt of his career.

How did it go?

Denver fumbled it back to Oak so pretty good

Exactly how Seabass drew it up.

Gus Johnson is really annoying me with the over the top Tebow love. He actually completed a pass downfield that was slightly overthrown but a great catch by Gaffney. Gus freaked out: "Who said he couldn't throw the ball?!? Whoever said that, they didn't know what they were talking about"

"You see the play fake he looked like Boomer Esiason" (it was a completely average play fake).

"Be interesting to see what our QB's in the studio have to say about this"

He's now like 7-14 for 130 yards and his one big play should have been picked off.

Every time Tebow runs for it I think Gus is going to crap his pants. I love Gus, but there's no reason to start to go nuts for a five-yard QB run that doesn't even come close to picking up a first down.

Yeah but the point is that they now control their own destiny AND can afford to get demoralized by NE tonight and survive Rodgers not play and still control that destiny. Considering how bleak things were for them coming into today, Im sure Packers fans will take that. Im sure most Packers fans still believe that if their team is healthy they are the best team in the conference, so basically if the Packers take care of business, they are in the playoffs. Today's game against NE only really affects their divisional chances at this point.

The fact that its looking somewhat likely that we might be seeing Bears/Packers from Solider Field on Wild Card Weekend is already getting me anxious. Still a long long way to go for that though. Bears just need to get in.

It would be glorious if the Steelers could pull a Jets on the Jets right here.

Jets got away with defensive holding there.

I know they're tough opponents, but there's no excuse not to make the playoffs now. If we don't, I really hope we see a coaching change.

What's the problem with McCarthy? He seems to have done a pretty decent job keeping things together even with all the injuries, aside from last week;s loss the the Lions. And that's not even looking that bad with their win @ TB today.

We have the tiebreaker with TB now since they lost to Detroit.

Gotcha. Didn't know that.

Everything that happened today made a Bears-Packers matchup in the first round of playoffs A LOT more likely.

I'm not sure about that. I haven't run all the scenarios, but the Bears have the tiebreaker over the Eagles....but the Giants would've had it over the Bears. Which means the Bears getting the 2nd seed is more likely after today than it was if the Giants had won.

I guess GB is more likely to make the playoffs though, so I you're probably right...but I still think a Chi-GB first round matchup is a long shot.

Bad playcalling, not having the team prepared to play lesser opponents...it's been the same script for the last few seasons. His record in close games speaks for itself as well.

I think Capers deserves more credit than anything because most of our injuries have occurred on that side of the football. I know we lost Grant and Finley on offense, which has hurt, but we've had far less to work with on defense this year. Somehow, we're #1 in the league in scoring defense despite all of our injuries. I'm really hoping some team doesn't try to hire Capers as a head coach in the offseason. He's completely revamped our defense and it shows.

Hmmm...maybe I was off base here...if the Bears beat the Vikings and Jets, and Philly and GB both win out, it does look like Chi-GB is a possibility. Bears need to win out for the bye probably.

Yeah, it's looking like that's the most likely matchup as of right now. But of course, that can all change in the blink of an eye.

Oakland avoids being eliminated. That makes today's eliminations Houston, Miami and Arizona. Oakland and Tennessee are still severe long shots, but have a prayer yet.

The Pats can't clinch the division anymore today with the Jets win, and the Ravens win prevented the Steelers from clinching, and Indy's win prevented Jacksonville from clinching, so the only team that can potentially clinch the division yet this week is Chicago.

I'm thinking the most likely scenario now is this:

Packers lose to Patriots

Bears beat Vikings

Packers beat Giants

Bears lose to Jets

Packers beat Bears

If that happens, as long as the Saints and Eagles don't lose out, its gonna be Bears/Packers at Soldier Field in 3 weeks. Even if the Bears beat the Jets, its the same matchup as long as the Eagles win out (playing Vikings and Cowboys)

Bears/Packers has a really good chance of happening.

I would think with all the hype for the Packer's season, if they miss the playoffs, McCarthy would get the boot. Is that a fair assessment, or does he have more staying power?

I think the injuries will save his job. It is interesting that we control our own destiny with two weeks left to play because even with all of the injuries, we still have two home games left on our schedule. I think there's a better chance he loses his job now than coming into the day just based on those events alone.

It's still pretty unlikely that he's canned after the season. At the very least, I think he'd be on the hot seat for next year.

There's only one opinion that matters, and its Ted Thompsons. I want him gone no matter what, he is not going to get the team to the next level.

I think that's really up in the air.

Mostly because the Packers' brass never expected to be in that position. All signs pointed to a better season. Also, there have been many injuries. How much does that soften the harsh judgement that would fall upon McCarthy? I think that's unknown - they're just praying to not need to go down that road.

That's my take, for what it's worth. There's definitely restlessness up here, that's for sure.

Not really anything interesting, but Matt Dodge's (Giants punter) Twitter after the game:

Tough ending. Thankful for the great support I have received. Praying for those going out of their way to say negative things. Praise God
