And it seems like a lot of important Michigan people hate Rich Rod.

This is the #1 reason why he's in the hot seat. Many important Michigan people were not happy with the hire in the first place. Rich Rod isn't seen as a "Michigan Man", whatever that means. "The spread will never work in the Big Ten."

I look for UM to become just like Notre Dame. Pretty soon we'll be just as bitchy.

Was this post made in 1906?

I hate that "he's not a real [team name] man" or "he doesn't know what it means to be a [team mascot]" crap.

UCLA does that nonsense (which can be seen in the last few hires in football). I guess mediocrity is a must in a UCLA football hire.

there is seriously no fan base who pulls the "well, our starting ___ was hurt," "we were down to our 3rd string ____," "oh [some fluke play] cost us the game," "our program murdered _____ right before that game," than stupid ND fans. unbearable.

you wanna go?

Ask him when Gene Chizik is gonna complete his turnaround job at ISU.

Probably after they move to the Missouri Valley Conference.

I have no interest in getting in this argument, but here's a very good look at why Mich's defense has been so atrocious the past few years.

Decimated Defense Part 1

Decimated Defense Part 2

Also, Carr's last recruiting class was highly rated because of two 5-star players (Mallett, D Warren), both of whom aren't with the team anymore. ESPN's analysis of the 2007 class points out that Michigan needed some CB in that class, but none were recruited.

Right, but Mallett and Warren not being on the team isn't Carr's fault, is it? Nor the fact that Cissoko left or the big time DB from last season that couldn't make grades (Dorsey?). It's certainly possible that some of the depth issues in the DB are bad b/c Carr didn't have a ton of 4 or 5 star players in his last few classes. But some of the holes are Rich Rod's creation (or failure to fill with guys that can pass NCAA eligibility requirements).

Point is - the cupboard wasn't USC-full, but it wasn't bare either. There was a lot of talent when Rich Rod got to campus. On the whole, I'm not sure if there's more or less there now.

whats the dig on Kill? I haven't watched N Illinois, but from a birds eye view they've done well with him at the helm. Is this a good signing by the Gophers?

Good coach and staff. The unknown is how well he'll be able to recruit at Minnesota. Clearly they felt a bit burned by going with a recruiter who can't coach for crap and went with someone radically different.

Posted

I'm sure they are betting on the new stadium and the chance to go up against Ohio State, Michigan, Wis, Nebraska as the selling points.

I couldnt stand Brewster. I kind of like th sounds of Kill if he is drastically different

He has a good pipeline in Florida and mentioned in his press conference that he was going to recruit speed. That's one thing that he always had at SIU and NIU.

Obviously, the Big Ten is a much different animal than I-AA and the MAC, so we'll see if that actually works. He's a good hire. I'm not really sure I understand why many Minnesota fans are upset by the move. They'll come around to it.

he just isn't the sexy hire. people in MN haven't had the chance to watch him and follow him, they see him a lot like Brewster, coming from a smaller conf, smaller school, etc. NVM the fact he is completely different then Brewster as a coach

They're upset because their AD has been talking the whole time about spending big money on the hire to get a big name. He didn't do Kill any favors with the buildup, nor in the press conference.

Warren mistakenly left for the pros, Woolfolk busted his leg in pre-season, Turner got hurt and transferred, Emilien also jumped ship, Floyd got hurt, it's just been an amazing confluence of bad luck that all helped make the secondary the disaster it's been

i do hate the 3-3-5 though, and the resulting lack of QB pressure we get from it, which is squarely RichRod's fault

Yeah, he really pulled a 180 with the hire after some of his initial comments, but I think he got a good coach. I'm sure it would be quite difficult to get a big name to take that job.

Here we go again. Urban Meyer is reportedly stepping down as Florida's coach according to AOL FanHouse.

I have been saying this for weeks. Dan Mullen will be the guy at Florida if this happens, and I think Miami has killed themselves by not moving quickly enough.

Mullen to Florida, RichRod to Miam, Malzahn to Mississippi State. Book it.

I'll believe this in September when Meyer is not coaching Florida in the opener.

So has Florida State has officially regained power in Florida?
