I am going to post a scenario here so stay with me here..

Giants beat Minnesota tomorrow.

Week 15 - Bears and Packers lose next week, Giants beat Philly and Tampa beats Detroit.

Week 16 - Bears beat the Jets at home and the Packers beat the Giants. The Vikings beat the Eagles. Tampa beats the Seahawks.

Week 17 -The Giants beat the Redskins. Tampa losses to New Orleans. That would set up the winner of the Packer-Bears game would not only make the playoffs but get a bye as well. The loser would be out.

I need a life.

this is all possible/highly possible aside from the Vikings beating the Eagles

If the Eagles beat the Vikings and lose to the Cowboys in Week 17 the same thing could happen. But even if that doesn't happen, the Packer-Bears winner would still get the division and loser goes home. Which would be nuts.

In addition to the Pats, the Packers have a pretty damn tough game against the Giants as well. If something happens we can get help from both of those teams, the Bears would only have to win one of their next two to clinch.

Also, everything I've read says people are optimistic the dome will be repaired in time for the Bears game. Anyone have the latest on that front?

I heard it is gonna take awhile. I am not sure it will be ready by next Monday. Which would be huge for the Bears IMO.

Yeah I don't want to play there. While I think I'd prefer facing Favre over Jackson, I could see the crowd rallying behind him because it's his last home game, and MNF.

Did anyone else see that Tillman was seen with a walking boot on and crutches after the game?

And yes, playing in the Metrodome would significantly decrease our odds of beating Minnesota.

Lovie gave what was called 'the best pre-game speech ever' on Saturday and talked about the most recent Medal of Honor winner and teamwork. Some of the players even cried. I guess it didn't work.

Apparently making players cry the night before a game is not the best way to toughen them up for a game.

Well that was interesting. It was so pathetic, my Patriots fan friend kept buying me shots of Jack Daniels throughout the game as a token gesture of caring friendship, which actually did lessen the pain. But, it also made me miss the season finale of Dexter. The wife taped it. I woke up about midnight and turned it on. Watched the first 12 minutes and the DVR asks me if I want to rewatch or erase. I guess the DVR figured I'd only want to watch the first 12 minutes and stopped taping. Ugh.

Yay Lions!

For kicks, lets say that the playoffs begin next week. Also, I'm assuming that the Giants win tonight.

1. Atlanta - Bye

2. Chicago - Bye

6. Giants at 3. Eagles

4. STL at 5. NO

The funny part of that, is that if STL and the Giants were to win, then the Bears would be "punished" by getting the best seed, STL, while Atlanta would get the "worst" seed, the Giants...

Unlikely, but amusing.

Yeah it's just too bad the Rams don't have a shot in hell of beating the Saints. They could play 10 on 11 and it wouldnt change the outcome.

If the Bears beat Minnesota and the Packers lose at New England we clinch the division, right? That would give us a 2 game lead with 2 to play. GB already has 2 division losses and the Bears have none. Edited by Old Style

Woudn't STL host NO?

Yeah I had a little extra wine last night to push this one further into the background.

I'm ready to move on from this puppy. :D

Oops...yeah...that's my brain getting in the way, thinking that the better team would be the host.

Well, as miserable as that debacle was yesterday, the Bears are still in good shape for the playoffs, thanks to Detroit.

Win next week, and it's all but wrapped up.

Yup, we were talking about it a page or two ago.

In theory. But a loss next week really makes it tough. Green Bay may lose next week, but they are likely to win their last 2 games. The Bears should be the fully exposed Jets at home the day after Christmas, but they will probably lose at Green Bay. So if they lose to Minnesota as they usually do, Green Bay is still in position to take the division and Chicago will likely miss the playoffs with the Giants and Saints most likely to take wild card spots. I think it comes down to this game, regardless Green Bay's result in New England.

I think if the Bears follow up yesterday's debacle with another loss to Vikings, it will cast a pretty dark cloud over this team.

I don't know how you can assume anything about what games Green Bay will win at this point.

1) They couldn't move the ball at all vs the Lions when Rodgers was in there.

2) You don't know what Rodgers status is at this point. Two concussions in the same season can't be good.

I heard so much last week about how Green Bay would beat Atlanta on a neutral field, but then they lose to Detroit? Seems to me they're just as inconsistent as every team not named the Patriots.
