Is 8/$160 really a bad deal for the production you're going to get? He'll probably hit another 5-8 HR every year getting out of Petco.

As a FA signing, a bigtime player is almost always going to get more than he's worth. I'm not sure I'd give him 8/160, but he's elite. No doubt about that and his stats would look better if he gets away from Petco and gets some protection around him.

I have a feeling the Red Sox were thinking more of a Ryan Howard 5/125 type deal than a 8/180 Texeira type. I'm pretty shocked though, if this actually does fall through. They certainly had to have an idea of what he wanted before he was even dealt to begin with. Or you would think so anyway.

Agonz is reportedly looking for a 8 year 160 million contract. Yea no [expletive] thanks.

He's obviously not going to get that much, but yeah, pass.

Why? That takes him to age 36. He is a premier offensive and defensive player. Passing on contracts like this every time means you never get them, because someone will pay it.

I doubt the Cubs are signing anyone to 8 years deals anymore after the Soriano signing. Hendry didn't even want to go 8 years to Soriano, McDonough made him.

This site also had a 3-way trade rumor where the Cubs would get Jacoby and Bucholz.. Not sure how much I would even believe this.

I'm not going to try and convince you of my source - I'm skeptical, too, when I hear things like this.

But, I have to defend myself a little: the 3-way Ellsbury and Buchholtz trade rumor was from ESPN Chicago. I merely passed on the rumor - again, from ESPN Chicago. And the substance of my post was saying the 3-way trade wasn't happening (http://www.bleachernation.com/2009/12/30/no-threeway-trade-between-cubs-red-sox-and-padres-for-now/)

Fair enough. Just never seen the site, no disrespect.

None taken. I just wanted to make sure to clarify before I was crucified.

Yeah, it's less the money so much as the years he wants. I really wouldn't have a problem with 5/$125 or 6/$120.

Exactly. Quite frankly I wouldnt give out any deals longer than 5 years to anybody. 5 years with an option for 6 is fine, but more than 5 guaranteed years is just too damn long and risky. I dont really care who the player is.

Now that the Red Sox trade has fallen through, the Cubs are looking to try and restart talks with the Padres, which previously didn’t get very far – according to the source – because of the Cubs’ reticence to deal Andrew Cashner, Tyler Colvin, Chris Archer, Brett Jackson, Hak-Ju Lee or Trey McNutt.

HAHA this better not be true. There should be no hesitance in doing any deal involving Colvin for a much better well established player. Colvin is far far far from being someone Hendry is scared to deal. Come on

Honestly, Cashner and Archer are the only ones Id refuse to move, and we might end up having to give up one of the 2.

Im probably one of the very few Colvin fans still out there, but if Hendry refuses to move him to get A Gon, he should be smothered.

Sweet. We won't trade them anyone considered good. That'll get A-GON here for sure. Maybe Jimbo's holding out for Hoyer to accept that Fukudome for A=GON swap........

Is Sam Fuld still untouchable?

Paying Gonzalez 8/160 or a little less(in years and/or dollars) isn't necessarily the worst thing in the world. The big problem is that the Padres are going to expect a package that tips the scales in the wrong direction. You don't give up 3 top prospects/young MLBers and THEN break the bank for Gonzalez.
