Mark Prior's number?

I would think all those people who bought nameless no. 22 jerseys all those years ago - and have since seen their jerseys go from Prior to Hart to Gorzelanny to Nady - are okay with this.

Assuming Pena gets the playing time appropriate for a team's presumed starter at first base, he'll be the first starting position player to wear no. 22 since Bill Buckner in 1938. Everyone else to wear it since has been either a pitcher or a reserve position player.

No wonder Buckner let the ball through his legs in the 1986 Series. By then he was so old he couldn't bend down. :D

Rondell White wore #22, as did part-timer Billy Hatcher. Something about broken down players with bad wheels in there somewhere.

Dave Clark in 1997 and Nady last year too. Hasn't exactly been a number of acclaim for the Cubs, has it?

Fixed that. Thanks.

For those of you keeping track at home, when Carlos Pena suits up for the Cubs, he will do so wearing jersey number...

(drumroll, please)

I approve of this.

Mark Prior's number?

Whenever I see a number 22 for the Cubs I always think of Bill Buckner.

This. I wear my 1978 Buckner jersey with pride.
