Looking back, it seems weird that people weren't more bullish on the ... Bulls ... than they were.

It's one of those times where you look back in retrospect and say "we really should have seen this coming."

Why? This has taken a big rebound from Deng and a huge leap from Rose plus ridiculously good bench play to achieve.

Rose is making the third-year leap, that was expected. Deng is actually shooting worse from the field, from three, from the FT line and rebounding less than a year ago. But he defends, which is the real thing. Everyone knew he would defend and that Noah would defend. Couple that with getting away from Del Negro ball and getting a defensive genius as a head coach, coupled with a great defensive assistant, combined with the expected Rose jump and however many games of Boozer you're gonna get.

I'm just saying it's something that didn't take imagination to see coming. Realistically all you had to do was go "wow, if their bench defends, they're going to be really good." But maybe everyone was so caught up in the Miami spectacle that they missed it.

I honestly thought they'd be good but by good I mean pulling off a 3 seed and having a chance at an upset in the playoffs and making the Eastern conference finals (this could still be as far as they go but now they may be the favorites and losing in the conference finals may be disappointing). Once the Miami hangover wore off you started to think, maybe 3 guys won't dominate and maybe the Celtics are too old.

I didn't think the Bulls would pull off the number one seed though.

This is the third year leap for Rose, but definitely more than expected. Not just the production either. The swagger, the late game ice, the game management; all of those things were question marks. Beyond that, the shooting improved far more than anyone could reasonably expect. At the end of the year he was behind Williams, Paul, Rondo and possibly a few others in the point guard pecking order. Now he's the MVP favorite and unquestionably the best lead guard in the league.

As for Deng, everyone knows he's better this year beyond just defensive hustle but no one is really mentioning what it is. It's the fact that he turned his dumbass 20+ foot jumpers into three point attempts. His fg% dropped predictably but not enough for it to be overcome the added point per make. That in turn helps spread the floor for Derrick.

I guess what I'm saying is that you may be somewhat right, but in order for a Bulls fan to expect this, they would have had to be really optimistic and since we're all pretty savvy sports fans for the most part, we didn't let ourselves get carried away. Even the most optimistic projections had them at 50 wins and that's not because we're dumb or don't know basketball. It's because there were too many question marks.

I saw mid to high 50's in wins... but i never, ever would've predicted that had you told me noah and boozer would miss all the games they did. So, how good they are, from that standpoint, is definitely surprising and impressive... because they're probably better than their record suggests.

Maybe I'm just thinking about this because I knew a year ahead of time what happens if you take a bunch of young athletes and surround them with a defensive coordinator (ron adams) and let them loose. I MISS YOU, RON.

Those last meaningless Krstic FTs are the only thing that prevented this from being the Celtics most lopsided loss of the year.

I knew they would be better, but how can anyone have expected this? 47-50 wins was a reasonable expectation, but this team should get to 60 easy.

The biggest addition player wise was Boozer. There's no way Boozer could account for so many wins, especially considering how many games he's missed. Rose's improvement could be expected, but this degree of improvement is a very pleasant surprise.

Props to Tom Thibideau. Going from Del Negro to Thibs might be the biggest factor of them all. Thibs definitely deserves coach of the year.

Predicting high 40's in wins was selling this team way short.

Especially since they were better than their record showed last year and played for an awful coach... oh and, sans bogans, pretty much every player they acquired was better than the best player they lost from last season... (unless I'm missing someone huge).

No one else even deserves a vote, honestly.

Part of the Thibs post-game presser:

Reporter: "How important was this game to you and your team?"

Thibs: "Honestly, the Cavs game means more, because this game is over already."

A decent chunk of the media still seems bent on Pops though. Honestly, I'd say Thibs is definitely more deserving of CoY than Rose is of MVP.

the main thing was that people still thought the bulls were missing a 2 that could make plays behind rose.

I'm no fan of Bogans, and I'm not saying you're wrong, but I do want to give him props for last night. He had an awesome game. He hit two of his three open three point shots and completely shut down Allen. Seven freaking points for Allen!

Did they just call a T on Thomas for getting knocked over?

He got the T because he stood over Davis and wouldn't move when the official told him to move. If you go back and watch the replay, you'll see why he did it. Big Baby purposely tried to land his fat ass on top of Kurt as he was falling to the ground. Luckily, he missed.

Well yeah, because Thibs actually deserves his award.

Based on the eye test and looking at no stats, it seems Bogans has turned into a serviceable player the last month or two. He seems to be knocking down some open threes and playing good defense. That's all we really need him to do. The threat of him hitting a three has spread the offense open in a way that someone like Brewer can't do, which helps Rose. Bogans has played a positive role on this team lately. At least in my mind. I'm sure an argument can be made against this.
