why isn't anybody talking about the fact that we're probably playing the knicks in the first round and that they just got a top 10 player?

We're way deeper and they don't play defense. I don't see how the Bulls wouldn't win that series however it's still not a match up I want even though it's likely and an early round exit would suck considering the entire NBA season is pretty much anticipation for the playoffs when you are an upper level team.

Who the hell is going to rebound for them? They have no good rebounders, Amare included. Besides that our frontcourt will absolutely own theirs.

Their front court consists of Stoudemire, Balkman, Turiaf, and Shelden Williams. Ours is Boozer, Noah, Thomas, Gibson, Asik.

And that's just one reason why I'm not worried.

Because they also gave away any semblance of depth they may have previously had?

James Johnson was the kind of guy certain people latched on to and I never got it. Yeah he didn't get a fair chance here but he was a puzzling pick, especially how they decided from day one to not give him a chance. Glad we could salvage something out of it.

i'm not saying the bulls shouldn't still beat them. i'm just saying that our likely first round opponent just got a lot tougher.

Not necessarily, now it'll probably just be the Knicks instead of the Sixers.

Ill worry when the Knicks learn what defense is.

In my opinion, these are the top 10 players in the NBA right now: LeBron James, Dwight Howard, Dwyane Wade, Kobe Bryant, Kevin Durant, Chris Paul, Derrick Rose, Dirk Nowitzki, Deron Williams and Pau Gasol. Not necessarily in that order, but around that order.

After that, you've got guys like Westbrook, Garnett, Rondo, Pierce, Ginobili, Parker, Carmelo, Noah, Amare, Bosh, Horford, Aldridge, Love, Boozer and even Blake Griffin in some order.

The East is gonna be really hard to win for awhile

Miami

Chicago

Boston

New York

New Jersey

Orlando

should all be contending. It will be like the West before where there was the top tier (LA, SA, Dallas lets say) and then another tier thats better than almost all the west teams (Utah, Denver, OKC) and then the lower playoff teams that would be a 4-5 seed in the East (Portland, Phoenix).

I'd probably dump Pau for Pierce

How is New Jersey going to contend? With Deron Williams and a center who can't grab more than 6 boards a game?

Also by the time Boston is too old to contend, Howard will move to LA, Orlando will be Cleveland South while New York and Miami could have potentially debilitating cap issues.

Obviously as long as LeBron exists, Miami will be a contender, but there's no reason to dread a 90's Bull-like hegemony in the East.

They arent going to contend today, but obviously based on the fact that they were agressive with Anthony, and now pulled this trade out of thin air, and the fact that they have a crazy russian owner who pledges to win immediately, this isnt going to be their last big move.

Well this is shorting Carmelo quite a bit because he's at least Dirk and Durant's equal on defense. Rose is a better passer, but he's not a better rebounder and they are equal at shooting. Carmelo is quite easily a Top 10 player.

No, it's really not shorting Carmelo at all. Carmelo is not better than Rose, Dirk, Durant, Gasol, Williams or Paul. He's sure as hell not better than James, Howard, Wade or Bryant. He's probably not better than Westbrook, Pierce, Rondo, Garnett, Amare, Nash or Love, either.

Not better than them at what?

He's not. He's a volume scorer who shoots 45% and doesn't really supplement it with 3 pointers or great FT shooting. That means he ranks 40th in the NBA in points per shot, directly behind Wesley Matthews.

Guys like Durant and Nowitzki are much more efficient scorers (9th and 15th in PPS), which means they aren't using up as many possessions to score their points.

Carmelo is still a really good player, but his only real strength is scoring and that aspect of his game is overrated because he's not very efficient at it.

Basketball.

Just a quick eyeball, based on the 50 players Bill Simmons listed in his "Most Valuable players" trade column, here are the ones projected to be more valuable via WARP than Anthony over the next 3 years (keep in mind, the next 3 years is the heart of Anthony's prime):

Dwight Howard, LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Derrick Rose, Dwyane Wade, Blake Griffin, Eric Gordon, Chris Paul, Kevin Love, Kobe Bryant, Stephen Curry, Rajon Rondo, Josh Smith, Manu Ginobili, Deron Williams, Pau Gasol, Al Horford, Andrew Bynum, John Wall, Monta Ellis, Kevin Martin, Serge Ibaka, Tim Duncan, Tyreke Evans, Amare Stoudamire, Kevin Garnett, LaMarcus Aldridge, Andrew Bogut, Danny Granger, Tony Parker and Joakim Noah (who is only projected to play 50 games per season).

Now, I don't necessarily agree with all of them, but to say he's easily a top 10 player is just an outright fallacy.

Fair enough, but I think it's funny how Carmelo went from being the missing piece for the Bulls to a guy who isn't one of the 20 best players in the NBA.

Where are you getting that? Surely not from this thread.
