I'd kill for a 3-loss season.

UCLA has had one season with 3 or fewer losses since back-to-back 10-2 seasons in 1997 and 1998.

I thought UCLA had been better than that recently – same with Illinois.

Illinois has been to 2 bowls this decade, it's rather sad

I thought they had been a little better early in the Zook years and still decent before that. Guess not.

I was looking through some NCAA stats and this really jumped out at me:

Oklahoma State is 119th out of 120 teams in kickoff return coverage, giving up an average 35 yards per kickoff return including 2 for TDs. That's over 18 total returns. Yet they lead the country in touchbacks at 35. Only one other team has more than 17 and that's Florida State (26).

I haven't watched any of their games, but just looking at this I would think that the kicker is not getting good hangtime in an attempt to get a touchback.

You would think so, but that's an extreme case of hit or miss.

It sure as hell isn't the elevation.

They don't tackle very well. Take a look at their defensive rankings.

3+ loss teams:

Florida, Illinois, Notre Dame, Texas A&M, UCLA, Pittsburgh, Georgia, Penn State, Tennessee, California, Clemson

That's a pretty impressive list of teams this early in the year. Most of those teams don't usually lose 3 or more games in a season, much less in the first month and a half.

Why are Texas A&M and UCLA on this list?

Good question. I can't remember the last season we didn't lose at least 3 games in a season. After a quick check, we went 11-3 in 1998 and 9-3 in 1995. When we were on probation in 1994 we went 10-0-1. I was a student then. The tie was at the Alamodome against a terrible SMU team. That is without a doubt the worst road trip I ever went on.

Texas A&M at Kansas (7 pm, FSN/CSN)

If we don't win this one, we might as well just leave Mike Sherman in Lawrence.

It's a blessing having a good kicker.

Let's see, playing at Iowa the week after the biggest game of the year for the Badgers?

Yeah, mark that down as a loss for Wisconsin.

If Tolzien can afford the turnovers, they have a legitimate chance. Iowa's secondary is a big problem. Michigan/Arizona has exposed it. They had Iowa on the ropes last year until Tolzien had a disastrous 2nd half.

Wisconsin is in the same position as Michigan State is. Win at Iowa, and the Rose Bowl is practically yours (as they have @Purdue, Indiana, @ Michigan, Northwestern to end the season).

The same position except for the additional loss, to Michigan State.

How high would they go? Probably to like 8.

How high should they go if they pull it off? 2 or 3 with Oregon and the winner of LSU/Auburn going to #1.

But I'm going to stop considering the possibility, because we only came close to beating Bob Stoops once, and that was when we had 3 NFL players on defense and an engine of death on offense. We have neither this year. The only true hope is that OU does something dumb because they haven't been to a super hostile environment this year or something like that.

Unfortunately, I agree with this. The Sooners look absolutely beatable, but I just don't see how Missouri pulls it off.

this reverse voodoo [expletive] won't work on me, idiots. but nice try.

Yeah I'm trying to figure that out also. In MSU's case it makes sense because they would have the tiebreaker over Iowa and Wisconsin while not playing OSU. Wisconsin needs to win out and have MSU lose twice unless it comes down to some 3-way tiebreaker that they win.

come on, you know the Sooners have never EVER had a down game against Mizzou. The last three meetings were all huge games for Mizzou. Two of those (both 2007 games), I felt we had a chance to win. Fast forward to 2010. We have a chance to win, and it's a huge game for us. There's no way DeMarco Murray doesn't score 4 TDs.

Iowa vs. Wisconsin Saturday, Vikes at Packers Sunday night. Ruin the weekend for that entire state.

No, just Saturday. Actually I would gladly trade a Packers win for an Iowa win.

Yup. And he's been tearing up Mizzou since Nate Hybl was quarterback. At least.

On the brightside, at the age of 30 this us Murray's last season.

I think I have read somewhere that MSU would win any 3 way tiebreaker with any of the legit Big Ten contenders.

Have you seen our QB that our idiot head coach refuses to bench? I'm not taking anything for granted the rest of the way.

if it's about who goes to the Rose Bowl, the tiebreaker is always "who hasn't been for the longest time?"
