The Bears have been booted off Peter King's top 15 team rankings this week. Teams like Green Bay (3-3), Kansas City (3-2) and Washington (3-3) are in there though. Not saying its a sham, but pointing it out anyways.

In fact, in the entire 6 page article, he only mentions the Bears and/or the Bears/Seahawks game two times.

1. Ten things I like:

Seattle taking the fight to the Bears, sacking Jay Cutler six times and coming away with a 23-20 road win.

2. Ten things I don't like:

c. The NFC North. The fact that the Vikings can be 1.5 games out of first after how shaky they've been is ... well, a tribute to Chicago losing two out of three and Green Bay dropping three out of four.

and the amount of sacks on secondary blitzes was all on cutler.

I agree that SOME of that has to fall on Cutler, but how many times did the tackles look to help double team a DLineman inside while a CB ran scot free right at Cutler?

Was looking at Football outsiders trying to see just how bad the O-line has been. Unfortunately it hasn't updated the numbers yet for week 6 but looking at the adjusted sack rates for team in the NFL, the Bears are by far the worst in the league at 12.2% (next worst is Arizona at 10.9%). And again that was before yesterdays sack fest.

Here is how FO describes adjusted sack rate:

Adjusted Sack Rate (ASR)/Sack Rate: Sack Rate represents sacks divided by pass plays, which include passes, sacks, and aborted snaps. It is a better measure of pass blocking than total sacks because it takes into account how often an offense passes the ball. Adjusted Sack Rate adds adjustments for opponent quality, as well as down and distance (sacks are more common on third down, especially third-and-long).

So if the Bears were to keep up the pace that they are at right now (and the number should be slightly higher than 12.2 after yesterday), only 3 offensive lines in the last 14 years have had a worse ASR than this years Bears:

02 Texans - 15.1% (expansion team)

05 Texans - 13.0%

06 Raiders - 12.3%

10 Bears - 12.2%

In a majority of the years, the worst team in the league has a rating somewhere between 9.7% and 10.9%. So in 14 years, there have been 471 different offensive line units in the NFL. The Bears so far are 468th at protecting their QB out of 471 since 1996.

Anyone who says that Kyle Orton is better than Jay Cutler should be made to understood what this means.

Thanks. I was actually wondering yesterday how the Bears OLine this year measured up against that historically bad Texans line. Looks like it's pretty close.

Historically bad OLine play. Not exactly a feather in the cap of the Lovie/Angelo era.

Mulligans opinions are jacked-up. Pass isnt working so we must run more power with this line, big guys moving forward bla blah tired cliches cha cha cha. Um no, have you seen these guys in short-yardage. They sucked even before these 2 clowns on the right side got in, if you cant run short yardage plays you do not have a power line running game to incorporate outside of those situations. Its actually amazing Cutler threw the ball for 290 yards. There were a couple times Cutler was in the pocket with his head moving in all directions like bees were swarming his head because the pressure was from everywhere, it was laughable.

This line sucks, period. Its not the OC or line coach its Angelo for assembling this 3 ring circus of clowns try to protect the star of the show. Cutler is going to get sacked like 70 times this year. WTF. I just got my Cutler jersey from china in, now all i need to do to make it authentic is get some grass stains on it.

I picked up the skins defense, at least ill get something out of this spectacular craptacular line.

Good point why havent I thought about picking the Bears opponent defense yet? My league gives 2 points for every sack.

You are right. As much as we want to take about different schemes, or using the shotgun formation or running more, or using the safety valves, etc. Nothing is going to make this offense into anything until the line is fixed. You might be able to slow down the onslaught that is occuring by being open minded and creative, but there is nothing you can do to make this offense functional without personnel changes on the line.

And nothing you can do with the personnel until the offseason, for the most part.

And even in the offseason, not likely to have success with Angelo making the decisions.

This does, indeed, suck.

After yesterday's game Jay Cutler was asked if Martz's offense has any audibles. Jay said no, only hot reads. When Lovie Smith was asked this same question at his press conference today, he said yes we do have some audibles. No one knows what the heck is going on!

Over their last three games, the Bears are averaging one third down conversion per game. And all three of those were in the Carolina game.

Posted
Well if you consider a timeout an audible to get out of a play then lovie is right. The Bears thus have 3 audibles.

Per half even.

Unless he wastes two of them challenging a play.

Yesterday's game confirms that the Bears are the worst coached team in the league. Look at the Skins O-Line: a mish-mash of very young, inexperienced players and medicore talents. Ye, they managed to keep two of the leagues top 5 passing rushing ends (Mathis and Freeney) off of McNabb for the most of last night, and the Skins nearly pulled it out.

Meanwhile, we got our asses handed to us by blitzing DB's, including a very freaking old safety (Milloy).

lol I watched the game last night too and didn't know anything about their oline. I was specifically watching their pass blocking due to watching our adventures earlier in the day. And my impression of them led me to believe they were a solid experienced line. They protected mcnabb amd even helped an unknown backup back rush for 100 yards and 2 scores.

Who knew thy were actually inexperienced scrubs.

From what I've heard from 49er and Lions fans, Cutler is telling the truth and Lovie isn't.

Well they do have a first round pick at LT and RT. I wish Jerry's first round offensive lineman could actually play.

I totally agree. I mean, Cutler should snap the ball to himself, take his 7 step back-step, pick up the blitz with a solid block, chip the DE coming on the inside stunt, read the secondary, make the correct route adjustment and get proper body position on the DB, make the throw to the correct spot, catch the ball, and out run of the secondary for a 72 yrd pitch-and-catch.

Its really that easy.

no, but not seeing lawyer freaking milloy of all people hiding behind the DE and assigning a running back or tight end to cover him up makes you wonder about his ability to adjust to defenses.

Don't forget Tait was once a first rounder too!
