This is a dumb response. You seem to think either a defense can be great or it can be awful with no in between. But there is. The D has had some bad drives but they've had more good ones. Overall, they've given up 3 scoring drives. That's an average performance, and possibly slightly above considering they had to be on the field for 13 more plays than the opposing defense has. The defense did nothing to lose them the game. They didn't play a great game, but our offense should be able to score more than 21 points most weeks.

Football is not played based on good drives vs bad drives. If you have multiple bad drives you aren't doing your job. If you let the offense get out of a deep hole it's on you. If your offense scores on the first drive and you give it right back it's on you. The defense is supposed to be good. It has not been good. That is bad.

What would you consider an average offensive performance? The other team is trying too. A defense shouldnt be relied on to hold every single drive, especially when they are on the field for 2/3rds of the game. They allowed 3 scoring drives. If they held all 3 of those drives to FGs, you might say they had an above average day. But they didn't. They had an avergae day. They allowed 3 scoring drives, but they also allowed 7 different drives to go 3-4 plays and out. They didn't play great, but they didn't play horrible either. They played average.

Against a very bad road team in Chicago. That is bad. Quit making excuses for a [expletive] unit.

How do you know they are so bad? Because of 2 games? 2 games with like 40 new players on the roster. 2 games without Lynch.

I've argued with you enough to know you can keep doing this for months without providing any sort of proof and without conceding even the littlest point so I'm gonna halt on discussing this anymore.

On the plus side it's nice that the team reminded me why I hate nearly everything about them. Angelo ignored the line and completely blew several drafts. Lovie's BS defense is not good, the offensive line is terrible they have no quality offensive skill position players they insist on blitzing repeatedly with nothing resembling results coming out of it. They are dumb. They waste timeouts and punt when they shouldn't or go for it when they shoudln't. The only thing I think they didn't remind me of is bad challenges.

Hey jersey, have you looked at the Bears defensive rankings yet. They sort of torpedo your characterization of them as the reincarnation of the 2008 Lions. I think you'd be surprised at how well they stack up.

What am I supposed to concede? That you aren't a complete idiot and they aren't completely incompetent? Okay, you aren't a complete idiot and the Bears defense occasionally makes a play. But they had a really bad day against a disturbingly mediocre offense that sucks on the road and has for multiple years and they have been a bad defense for 4 years now. What else do you want me to concede?

I dont' care how they played against Carolina, they had a bad day today. You can ignore that fact and pretend it didn't happen, but it did.

Urlacher didn't make any plays. Neither did Peppers or any of the DBs. They all sucked at the same time. Not going to win many games when that happens.

They did well against GB and Detroit, dominated Carolina, and while they gave up yardage to Dallas, they afforded themselves pretty well with turnovers and stuff. Today they were average but good enough to win.

Your characterization is just way, way off.

Edit: Forgot the New York game...if there were ever an example of a defense holding up well to start, and then getting pushed around later on because the offense sucked the life out of them, it was that game.

We all know the Bear defense is a bend but not break defense. Why would anyone get all up in arms when they give up what we all knew they would give up - lots of yards? This was the worst defensive game they had played, but good defenses are due a stinker every now and then. All I care about is how many points they give up and the Bears have been just fine at doing that this year. My concern is centered around the lack of pressure on the QB. It makes the rest of the team bad when you can't do this. It forces Marinelli to blitz and the Bears are terrible blitzers. Your perennial Pro Bowl LB was out too.

My characterization is they had a bad day today. And they did. Zero plays made.

The bend but don't break defense is a flawed defense. It's very risky. It's intentionally not being good at defense and hoping the offense screws up. I hate it myself. If you can make it work, fine, but the Bears haven't made it work since 2006. Giving up yards is bad, even if you are "willing" to give them up.

Yeah you are right. They are 6th in yards allowed. I guess in just seemed like they were.
