OSU doesn't deserve to be #1, but if they beat Wisconsin in Madison, I'll change my mind.

Great timing for PSU's bye week. They need to figure [expletive] out

I think preseason rankings are stupid and only by virtue of that does OSU have the number 1 spot, but I'm still curious to hear who you think should be #1, Oregon?

I also think its stupid that Alabama dropped 7 spots after a loss like that.

Not likely at all. There likely won't be a ton of 2 loss teams in the poll next week and Illinois is well behind several 2 loss teams in the national perception even with a win against MSU.

however, it is possible that illinois could win out. if they did that, they could find themselves in a decent bowl game. like the cap one or the outback. that would be out of this world.

i would fire zook at that point and make koenning or petrino the head coach.

I don't have a better #1, really, but OSU's best win was a home game against a two-loss Miami team. Their strength of schedule is in the 90's or so. I suppose Nebraska, Oregon, even Oklahoma have better resumes at this point

According to Sagarin ratings, this is the order of quality of Big Ten teams:

Ohio State

Michigan State

Iowa

Wisconsin

Michigan

Illinois

Northwestern

Purdue

Penn State

Indiana

Minnesota

Also, Nebraska would be atop the Big Ten (because they'll be in the conference next year), and Illinois would be atop the Big East (just because the thought of this is funny)

i fondly remember watching Illinois - MSU my freshman year, very hungover, first year of the Zook era and we won on a last second FG, our first conference win in like 2 years

I remember going to a Ill/MSU game in the 80s sometime where a referee died on the field and I think Morten Anderson made a 60+ yard fg(this may be faulty memory or a different game though)

There's a not-insignificant chance that there are more Broncos fans in the stadium this week than Irish fans. I'm so glad 7-4-1 will be just a 1-year disaster. Thanks again Dr. White!!

I wouldn't complain about Boise, Oregon, OSU 1-2-3. Boise has the best resume so far, but I don't really have a problem with OSU first.

In reality, I think some of the WMU allotment came back. But living up here an hour from K-zoo, there are several Western Michigan undergrads eager to have a reason to pay to go see the ND game day experience. I don't think they'll really outnumber ND fans.

Swarbrick had trouble nailing down the last 2 opponents in this year's schedule, which turned out to be W Michigan and Tulsa, because White had this 7-4-1 thing implemented for this year before he got fired. I'm not wild about playing 2 buy games like WMU and Tulsa in the same season. Future schedules look to be moving back to 6-5-1 or 6-4-2, which tends to result in much better opponents (like Miami, Texas, and Oklahoma).

The rankings on the far right are the ones submitted to the BCS (they don't factor point spread in at all, while his normal rankings do somewhat).

I think a lot of schools had trouble getting their 12th game though, multiple Big 10 schools have wound up playing at MAC schools because everyone was scrambling at once to fill their schedules with only a couple dates to choose from.
