I think the Giants are a better team then some here are giving credit for. From the outside looking in one thing that I really like about them is that Bochy seems to have no problems playing the better player. I wonder how long our last couple of managers would have held out hope that Rowand would get better or made some stupid reason to keep Molina.

They have a ridiculously good starting rotation. The team is mediocre, but dominant pitching can overcome a lot of things.

yes they did...they really improved their offense as the season progressed also. I agree it is still a middle of the road offense, but with dominating pitching it is not like they are some complete fluke like the 06 Cardinals.

How did they improve their offense as the season progressed? Sure, they called up Posey. But they were 9th overall in runs scored and 10th post all star break. They were 8th overall in OPS and 7th post all star break. They were a bad hitting team with a couple really good bats but the dominant starting pitching is the entire story of that team.

Exactly. Just another case of a mediocre team with great starting pitching sneaking into the playoffs catching fire and winning the whole thing.

It really is all about how well you are swinging the bats come October.

Apparently, it took a trade to Texas to get Bochy to play Posey regularly; Buster was a September callup last year and essentially got no playing time. He also started the year down in AAA, despite prognosticators saying he was ready (although, apparently his defense needed some fine-tuning). Plus, there was the utterly bizarre trade for Jose Guillen and subsequent playing time he got which really hurt their offense. Bochy had a weird thing for veterans.

Their pitching was phenomenal, but their offense was pretty middling throughout the season and managed to catch fire at the right time.

The one good thing about the Giants winning.

Here's something Cubs and Cardinals fans can commiserate together with: Todd Wellemeyer -- World Series champion.

He was cut by the team in August. I doubt he gets a ring... unless Brian Wilson punches him in the face with his.

If Bengie Molina gets a ring (which it was reported earlier that he does) then so does Wellemeyer. I think anybody that was on the team at any time during the season gets a ring. A share of the prize money, that could be another story. My guess is they both get a partial share.

I'm not sure if it's anybody who spent any time, but anybody who made 11 starts is getting his.
