The defense just needs to tighten up and they'll stay afloat until everyone gets back.

Until somebody else gets hurt.

Mr. Sunshine over here!

Yeah, I took it wrong. I thought that signified he'd be out longer than expected but Q just said it doesn't change the timeframe for his return.

It's really used to free up cap space -- it's not like IR in the NFL, which means you are done for the season. It's much more like the DL in baseball.

But the DL in baseball requires specific amount of time missed. Is that the case here?

The power play was horrible last night. 6 PP's to 1, and yet it was somehow a one goal game.

Still, I can't complain with 2 points against a conference foe.

A couple of the PPs came right after they built that 4-1 lead, and they were clearly just treading water. Q mentioned it after the game, how the team has a tendency to step off the gas. They may have been good enough last year to turn it back on and still win games, but they're not this year.

Regardless, like you said, good win. I think Dallas has played way over their heads so far, but still.

The timing of the 5 on 3 was advantagous for the Stars, since the Blackhawks were on the verge of scoring but had to rush to beat the clock, then come out for a center ice face off. They really got close there.

I'll take wins any way I can get them, but it's very noticeable that the Hawks give up their lead when they get it.

Eh. Just keep fighting, let's see what happens as the calendar turns to 2011 and our guys get healthy (hopefully).

Q sounded optimistic about injured players for next week...was even hopeful for Kane to be on ice earlier than expected

Coach Q: Two or three of the injured forwards, including Kane, could be skating by the time the team returns.

So odd that players keep coming back way earlier than originally thought. I don't know if Q is rushing them back or whatnot, but its nice to see them hopefully come back soon.

no

and lets face it, with the ability to stage a DL retroactively, neither does the mlb really.

It still requires you miss 15 consecutive days. If you can put a guy on the IR one day and take him off quickly thereafter it's pretty insignificant.

It's seven days after the date the player is placed on IR. But it can be retroactively applied in most cases. Compared to the NFL and MLB, it's pretty flexible.

It freed up a roster space for the team. The roster max is 23 players, with 20 dressing for a game. The Hawks have 22 on the roster, allowing them the flexibility to bring up a player to ensure they skate 20. With Hossa, Pisani and Kane all out, that was one too many injuries to the forwards (Morin was brought up into the 23rd spot). Putting Hossa on IR ensured the Hawks had enough space to bring up Klinkhammer. When Hossa and Pisani come back next week, my guess is that Scott goes back to the press box and Klinkhammer goes back down.

The real question is whether or not they let Morin go to World Juniors.
