I feel like Sammy and the Cubs won't fully make up until most of the bigwigs in the front office from that time frame are gone. The Trib, McDonough and MacPhail are all gone. I'm sure Hendry is the main reason there hasn't been any reconciliation between Sammy and the organization.

That doesn't fit Hendry's reputation at all.

Pretty much universally, players have great things to say about him and how he treats/treated them.

i'd say great things too if my boss gave me obscene money for mediocre at best work.

Actually Sammy, yes, your numbers do lie. You had more juice in you than a watermelon patch and on top of that got caught with cork.

Amazes me to no end how stubborn these guys are. Take a page from Pettite's book, be honest and most will understand, forgive, and move on. I have no sympathy for those who lie in the face of obviousness.

really? because a-rod's admitted it and no one seems to give him any sympathy, in fact people have never liked him and its always mystified me

not like i care if these guys took steroids or not anyway

Well we'd have a better idea if we could get a quote from Sosa about how he feels about the organization.

I could care less if Sammy was a juicer. My only complaint/question is why didn't more Cubs players juice? I'm talkin the whole fricken team. We couldv'e won a WS if more had. The PED window for a Cubs championship is forever closed.

And no...Sammy and all other heavily suspected juicers should not be eligible for the hall.

Number 21 ought to be flying high on a flagpole in right field. The fact that it isn't yet is an embarrassment.

No its not. It hasn't even been 5 years since his retirement.

Amazing.

Guy #1: Cheater. Almost universally considered a total jerk. Successful at his job.

Guy #2: Nice guy. Almost universally liked and respected. Unsuccessful at his job.

Yet, even in personal matters, people side with guy #1. Good to know people can separate on-field from off-field issues.

Universally, Hendry hasn't thrown too many people besides Sammy under the bus.

Evidence that Sammy is universally considered a jerk? Cause I like and respect him, and I think Hendry's a jerk.

I don't get the Sammy love around here. Even when he was crushing, he was a self-centered, egotistical ass when he wasn't blowing kisses to the camera. Are folks just too young to remember Dawson?

And I wouldn't call Hendry a jerk. Grossly incompetent, but I've never read any reports that he mistreats players or anyone else or has anything but the best interests of the team in mind.

Yeah, I get it. You're a contrarian. That's your thing. Congrats.

because a lot of us don't care if he was self-absorbed or egotistical. Frankly, I kind of EXPECT superstar athletes to be that way, so i don't get too worked up when that's the case.

Would I prefer every player to heave the personality of Hawk or DLee or Dempster? Sure I guess. But I'd rather them be good than nice. We want our team to win. And if running 9 a**holes out there for 162 games racks up wins, then let's do it.

As for Hendry, I've got no personal beef with the guy. I just want him as far away from my favorite baseball tam's front office as humanly possible.

Yeah I guess what we are all forgetting that the home runs don't count as much if you are being a jerk when you hit them. When a jerk hits a home run it counts for like 1/3 of a run, while if a nice guy hits a home run it counts for 2 runs.

Obviously. Its been clearly one-sided. Everybody loves the steroid user; nobody's criticized him even once in this thread!

Hawk may have been a great guy off the field, but he strikes me the same as every other baseball player. He's one of my favorite Cubs growing up (as was Sandberg, who was the biggest jerk of any athlete I've ever met). Sosa isn't much different than Dawson, imo. Almost all of them have huge egos.

But who are all these people in the universe that think Sosa is a jerk?

you make pretty sweeping statements that are based solely on your perceptions of these people and take offense when others disagree?

When Dawson went nuts due to a botched call by an umpire throwing a full bat rack on the field and inciting the crowd to throw [expletive] on the field, he was just showing passion for the game, and showing that he cared.

When Zambrano went nuts due to a botched call by an umpire, whipping a ball to the bleachers, he's a lunatic.

I remember that and thinking it was the most awesome thing ever when I saw it. Of course, I was like 10 at the time.
