Back to Brett and the texting. Last Monday when the news broke that Brett said he was hanging it up through a series of text messages, ESPN showed clips of Peterson and Allen saying they had received texts from Favre and texted back. I assumed that they were talking about the news of the day - that Brett gave them texts saying he was retiring. ESPN made it seem that Peterson and Allen were responding to the specific "this is it" text when the Vikings players were just talking about texting they had done with Brett during the offseason.

Abdullah on the Vikings will fast (no water or food) from sunup til sundown to honor Ramadan during training camp. He can have a protein shake though. I have to hand it to be him for being a faithful Muslim cause I can imagine that is not easy to do.

I don't know what the rule is for wealthy athletes who need to eat as part of their job, but Islam carved out exceptions for people who have to eat during the day so that it's either not considered sinful or can be made up later. For example, a subsistence farmer who needs to eat during the day to keep his strength up can eat without penalty or incurring some sort of sin. Doing it with a protein shake sounds like a good compromise.

an announcer just called Todd Heap "A little long in the tooth". I feel old.

I feel ya. I'm 29 and would be considered almost past my prime for professional sports. That's just not right!

My birthday is a couple months off from Kerry Wood, so he's been my measure for quite a while now in that regard.

I'm a year and a day older than Kerry, so he's been my measuring stick too.

I didn't realize Harvin had been away from the Vikings all this time. And I wasn't aware there was a "left squad" list.

Yep. It's kind of frustrating that the migraines may be an issue his entire career. Plus you've got Sidney's hip issue which some writers are speculating is just a semi-holdout for a new contract. Not sure I buy it but I wish our best QB and best two WR's were at least spending some time in camp.

Rexy looks damn sexy! Good for him to be able to work with Shanahan to rejuvenate his career.

Washington might have issues, but I they're set pretty well at QB.

If I am not mistaken Terrell Davis had the same problem, and even wore braces to help try to curb them.

Solid game for the Titans. Vince looked ok, Javon Ringer looked good and Alterraun Verner made some plays.

On the other side, I have no idea why Chris Simms is on the team. Kerry Collins is a solid backup and Rusty Smith has potential (he looked pretty good Saturday night). Simms just isn't a very good quarterback. Kenny Britt was also pretty inconsistent. LeGarrette Blount looked really good (and big), though.

I also feel bad for Stafon Johnson. All that work to get ready for the season and now he's out 2-3 months with a dislocated ankle after his first preseason game. He was running very well too. I'm definitely pulling hard for him, seems like a really good kid.
