I just like how the whole premise is the Cubs don't want to fire a legend and Lou is too proud to quit, so the solution is to convince him to retire.

You have to admire the self-restraint of not going into a tangent on the laziness of Aramis Ramirez, though.

I didn't read the article, but the time has passed to replace managers. You are days away from trading key pieces on the team that effecively throws up the white flag on the season and now is the time you want to replace Lou?

And I'm sure managerial candidates would be lining up to interview with a team that just pushed a respected manager out the door by forcing him to retire in the middle of the season.

But....why? What is the purpose of having Lou leave and Brenly take over now? What would Brenly want to come down and guide a loser team through the last 2 1/2 months? Lou is someone who has been a big contributor to what has happened here. If he doesn't want to quit, fine...he can ride it out. Clean house after the season.

I just don't see the gain.

I'm guessing to give him a couple of weeks' worth of material to write about.

Apparently you do not have Geovany Soto on your fantasy team. It's bad enough that the Cubs have to suck, but to have Lou kill mine and Rozner's fantasy teams by playing Koyie Hill day after day is adding insult to injury. If Rozner didn't write the article, I would have. :P

The playing of Koyie Hill stopped about 14 games ago. Geo has started almost every game in July.

A tip of the cap to you for still paying that close attention! :hello:

Is Lou Piniella really the problem?

I think every contract over 10 mil per year should automaticly come with a "diminishing skills" clause. Unbelievable the lack of production for the highest paid players on this team.

Soriano's the only 10M+ player playing close to his contract. Just thought that needed to be pointed out

Whoops, forgot him. Dempster absolutely is. There's the funny thing, the 2 guys that people seem to hammer most for being bad contracts are the ones performing up to them.

Most of the crap Soriano's gotten has been either forward-looking (he'll be paid $18 mil at 38 type stuff) or critical of his awful year last year. None of the Dempster bashing has been warranted at all. He's been really good since taking over as a starter for the Cubs.

I feel like Dempster bashing has plummeted since he became a starter again.

Yeah, it's really not around, though there's like 2-3 infrequent posters here who appear out of nowhere to rail on him for it, and it never fails to be hilarious.

Yeah, it's definitely dropped off significantly. Any Dempster bashing is kinda random at this point, though. He's one of the better starting pitchers out there at this point.
