There is no reason on earth to be wondering anything at the end of the season as far as Colvin goes offensively, this team is dead.. He should be playing everyday somewhere regardless.

He could play every inning from now until October and there would still have to be questions about how future.

True. A better way to say it would be remove as much doubt as possible I guess.

It would be dumb not to review options within the organization during a regular season.

And Soriano to 1B is a much better option than Colvin to 1B.

I was kind of thinking I wouldn't mind playing 1B next year......... I can't hit a lick but I would do if for MUCH less money than the guy who is not hitting there now.........

Honestly, it would basically be impossible to do so. Colvin is too young and his professional career is too limited.

At some point we have to just let him play or we will never find out.

I should have posted IMO after everyting I have said, I felt attacked over something completely logical and responded in kind.

I actually think we are somewhat on the same page N&G so I do apologize. Just differ on the how(or timing of the how)

Great, now I'll be pondering all night how to make Tyler an everyday starter. I REALLY HATE losing to Dusty's team, you darned Cubs.

Seriously, when does someone lose their job? I know it won't make a difference at the end of the year, but that doesn't mean it should not happen.

it's too bad the game couldn't have ended with gorz hitting into a double play with the bases loaded. that would have been hilarious.

I wouldn't disagree that he has more experience in the IF than Colvin, or that he would be a better 1st option. Defensively, I would rather have Colvin as the everyday LF than Sori.

However, I would also point out that Soriano has had a much better career throwing a baseball than he has had catching it. He has never looked very comfortable when the ball is coming toward him.

He is playing, all the time. It's not like this is some 27 year old who has run out of options. There's plenty of time to figure out Colvin. There should be no rush to determine right now or this offseason his exact role going forward.

I think Lou would have went to Zambrano instead...

Nice to see D Lee producing like mad after standing up to big bad Carlos last Friday. Bat him 8th Lou, show them you are truly sick of this crap.

I agree. I didn't read every post, but I didn't see anything about Colvin having his exact role with the future of the Chicago Cubs determined in the next 2-3 months. I'm making some assumptions (Lee not being re-signed and the Cubs holding out for a shot at Fielder or Gonzalez) and trying to consider the options based on those assumptions. IF the Cubs don't want to re-sign Lee, or IF the Cubs want to wait for the 2011 FA class and Lee WON'T sign a 1-year deal, then, based on current production from 1B, it may be time to review other options for the short-term future. I don't think Colvin's future is at 1B, but I wouldn't simply dismiss it based on the fact that he plays OF now and has no experience at 1B.

Zambrano? I think not.

I don't want firings during the season. I want Piniella and Hendry to remain with this crew. Hendry built this crap, and Piniella has "managed" this crap, thus they shoud go down with the ship. Firing both would be letting both off the hook for crap. No, no. If this ship goes down, I want Hendry and Piniella to get FULL CREDIT for this season.
