Piniella is right with one of his comments: what has Steve Stone ever done regarding development of a player of a team or anything on the field after his one Cy season? Stone doesn't have to be right about player/managerial decisions because he's just a mouth piece.

Yes, he's a bitter conceited jerk. Whatever. But that doesn't make him wrong. Also, he is allowed to have an opinion JUST LIKE YOU. You don't have to be a [expletive] manager to have an opinion. On top of that he spent decades playing the game at the highest levels. I just...ugh. Come on man, he has the right to speak his mind, and Piniella has the right to call him a jerk. Everyone is entitled to their opinion or there's no purpose to sports analyzing in the first place. Piniella is old and stupid and senile and getting thin skin - end of story on that.

I just don't see why more people aren't concerned with Lou seemingly spending more time jarring back and forth with announcers than fixing his crappy team.

Because that whole little rant probably took a whole 5 mins?

Where am I suggesting Stone doesn't have the "right" to have/express his opinion. But just because he has the right to an opinion doesn't mean I have tool agree with him. The difference between Stone and the fans is that Stone gets paid by companies so people like me listen. And as a consumer, I find his constant bitching about the Cubs boring and often unwarranted. IMO, he has an axe to grind, and that's not very professional.

[expletive]. Stone was a pitcher not someone in a position of power on the field or behind the scenes. To the point about anyone expressing an opinion, that's fine to a degree but it should be done in a professional manner. Stone makes all of his criticisms about the Cubs dripping with sarcasm and as if he's eliciting laughs. That's a man with an axe to grind. Piniella merely took time to, finally, respond to Stone's barbs. Whether you agree with the substance of the criticism its hard to believe that you too wouldn't be pissed by someone constantly critiquing your performance (especially when that person is watching from a far). Why doesn't Stone ever criticize Ozzie in the same manner? It's two fold; talking about the Cubs keeps Stone relevant in town, because there are far more Cubs fans than people who really care about the Sox, and he knows Ozzie would call him out relentlessly.

CSN Chicago runs a promo touting its coverage of the Cubs and White Sox. In the promo there's a brief quote from each of the "analysts" on the team. And when White Sox color commentator Steve Stone appears, he's talking about--Carlos Zambrano. I find it a little odd, myself.

Seriously is Chicago done blaming Steve Stone for this abomination of a team yet? 2004 until now hasn't been enough time? Yes, he's bitter and spiteful and I hate him. But he's usually right. Especially about the Cubs.

No, that's he main problem. He's never right.

And what the hell are you talking about with Chicago blaming Steve Stone?

I don't think the city of Chicago necessarily blames him for anything, but it seems like all the hatred toward him spewed from the whole debacle in 2004 with Dusty and some of the players.

i think it's the opposite of that. im pretty sure most people were on his side for that.

people started hating him after he left and started opening his mouth and acting like he was god. he tries soooooooo hard to get everyone on his side and against the cubs.

basically he's just an extremely bitter and petty person.

Because he was asked a question, I think. If he just randomly brought it up, it'd be weird, but he was asked about Stone's comment and answered the question. The more PC answer would have been a fluffed up "no comment" but instead he gave his opinion.

Its really too bad it all went down like that, especially when it ended by a confrontation with a piece of crap like Kent Mercker. Ston really loved the Cubs. Not to Ron Santo like extremes, but he was a true fan. What he was saying about the 2004 train wreck that got him in trouble was all true as well. I really wish he could just get over it at this point. If you ever watch him and Hawk broadcasting, he's not nearly as passionate about the Sox as he was about the Cubs.

Let's just say that if we have Steve Stone on one side and Kent Mercker on the other and polled people in and out of baseball who was the piece of crap, I think Stone ends up being the whole pile of crap 3/4ths of the time.

That may well be true..... but the fact is, all of that plus $1.69 will buy you coffee down at the Pilot.

So he's not right that Colvin should be getting more at bats?

Correct. Colvin is the 4th best OF on the team.

i'd like him to get more plate appearances too, but it's not possible. if lee gets traded, i see a spot opening up for him but not really until then. the other outfielders are making too much money and playing pretty well.

Exactly. This isn't cut and dry where one person is stinking up the joint.

If Stone wan't to rip him, let it be the Hill/Soto situation. That's a valid critique!
