Ghana were very lucky...Cahill handled the ball in the 18 late and the ref missed it. Would have been a PK to tie.

Bring on Ghana. F them.

And that's just today.

If that dope from Serbia doesn't stick his hand up for no reason, Ghana only gets a draw in the opener also. They were also down to Australia 1-0 before Australia got a red card.

Ghana have yet to score in the run of play in the World Cup

I would advise against underestimating any team that makes the last 16.

Should be a good game.

Lets not underestimate the opponent of course but this is a good draw.

I obviously watched all the games in 06 and I try to watch the USMNT as much as I can but for the experts here, tell me why the USA is more likely to beat Ghana now than they were in 06 when they lost.

Is Donovan at least in the discussion of being maybe one of the best 50 or so players in the world at this point? Top 30 even?

Top 50: good chance

Top 30: only if ESPN makes the list.

I'd say between 40 and 50

Hard to compare, but relative to the field Howard is as good as it gets for the US.

Heh, I think, during Donovan's time at Everton, ESPN had a list with him at #50.

Form varies so much from week to week, but on balance I'd be on board with this.

Thing about Landon is he's a complimentary player. He gets better and more valuable based on the quality of players he plays with because of his instincts, intelligence, vision, hard work and technique. He is not a Christiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi who can impose his will on a game every week.

Here's one from inside the stadium after the goal was scored:

Anyone know of an outdoor watch party in Chicago for Saturday?

Someone needs to make a GIF of the old lady's reaction at around 40 seconds in this video:

Because that team was older, overrated and full of guys in dreadful form, and it still took a questionable PK call and some bad luck to lose 2-1.

We have Donovan and Dempsey and Howard in prime. Mikey in fantastic form and Jozy looking better with each game. Dolo and Demerit looking good, and this team has something about them. Full credit to Bob Bradley. No matter what happens, his 4 years have been a fantastic success. He rebuilt the midfield post 2006 and looked at everyone in the pool, practically.

Nothing's guaranteed, and Ghana will have the whole continent behind them, but on paper, we should win this game. They are a more athletic Algeria.

On talent, Landon isn't one of the top 30. Relative to his role at the national level, he probably is.

Wolf put it best-he's a complimentary player. A top notch one, but no Messi or Ronaldo.

I think when the transfer market heats up, Mikey and Landon are going to be in demand.

Bob's going to get the call to Europe and I'm almost as excited about that as I am about any player getting transferred.

Let's talk about Benny Feilhaber. Benny has been the first midfielder off the bench for the last two games and he's been very good in both. It's the same role he played in the good run last summer. It's pretty evident that he's not a 90 minute regular starter, but what's his deal? I haven't seen him play a ton of club ball. He just seems like a really smart sub who gets a feel for the game's pace early on. He definitely raises his game on the big stage (BENNY...FEEEEEIIILHAAABER!!! YEEEEEESS!) but he's never really done anything eye catching at club level that I've been aware of.

Not to mention Michael Essien is injured.

First, and this is a huge change, Ghana doesn't have Michael Essien.

Second, we are a much, much better team through the midfield. In '06, Ghana basically won on a cheesy PK call given to Onyewu at the end of the first half. Even with that, we were close to equalizing several times in the second half.

Didn't he play a full game in the confed cup championship when bradley was suspended and looked pretty good?
