I still don't understand the offsides rule in soccer

It's not difficult. Takes a bit of practice to be able to spot it though.

When the pass is made, there has to be a defender in front or even with (i believe) the recepient of the pass.

It doesn't matter if the recepient is 30 yards ahead of the defender when he gets it, it only matters where he is when the pass is made.

Think of the last dman (assuming the goaltender is back there) as the blue line (in hockey terms).

I don't know what it is with the USMNT and the first 15 minutes.

Now we'll see Slovenia bunker down.

They are the Randy Wells of the soccer world.

doesn't look like it so far. Still attacking.

so you have to "carry" the ball past the last defender, you can't pass it past them to your own player?

You can kick it and let your forward run past him. The key is where the recipient of the pass is the moment the pass is kicked.

You can pass it. If your teammate is onside when you kick it, that is what matters

No, you just can't be behind the last defender or goalie before a pass is made.

you can pass the ball past the last defender, but that defender has to be even with the recepient of the pass when the passer initiates the pass. If the recepient sprints away from the defender after the pass is kicked and receives it, he can easily find himself on a breakaway. Also it doesn't matter where the defender is...if the recepient is in the middle of the field, and the only defender between him and the goalie is up at the top of the field and nowhere near the recepient, it's still onsides.

that's what I thought. so the line judges just keep moving to stay even with the last defender, right?

We're not going to lose to a squad that wears black shoes with white socks

Looks like they modeled the jersey stripe on Charlie Brown's sweater, too.

So if we lose this game, we have to hope that England either flatout loses one of their last 2 games and the USA has a better goal dif., or ties each of its last 2 games. Oof.
