Lindor wouldn't be my pick either, with those guys all on the board, but I won't be but so disappointed, since he's a guy that's probably the best defensive player in the draft, has a solid hit tool, and may wind up as a double digit home run once he fills out some.

I really question whether Lindor will ever hit enough to be a starting middle infielder in the majors. When I read reports like this:

So I ask you this — would you pay the $2 million for a singles hitter?

I worry. Some people aren't so hot on his defensive tools, either.

In other words, bleh. Not a fan of that pick.

Jackie Bradley Jr has a torn tendon in his wrist per Aaron Fitt. His season is probably over.

Yeah, that's John Klima from BaseballBeginnings and I really like reading his stuff actually. He did preface this by saying that he's basically lower on Lindor than just about everyone else though. Which is one of the things I like most about Klima, by the way. He's not afraid to out on a limb and say something most others are scared to say. I just hope he's wrong about Lindor, if he's our pick. :D

Interesting.

While I would be very happy to get Bubba, wouldn't that pretty much put an end to our hopes of any significant late round super slots?

That's where I'm at as well, considering how much it's probably going to cost to get him. That said, I think this draft is going to shape up a tad differently than other recent ones anyway, because I don't see guys dropping as much as usual due to signability. I think most teams are going to look at this draft as the LAST one where overslotting is allowed and will spend whatever it takes to get players. Much moreso than in the past.

Not necessarily. Take Zach Lee as an example:

The money for the 6-foot-4, 195-pound right-hander will be spread out over five years, which protects the Dodgers should Lee decide to return to college and football. But it still marks a major investment for an organization that has been among baseball's thriftiest in the draft in recent years.

Considering Starling has a strong commitment to Nebraska as a QB, the Cubs could structure a comparable deal with him without having a severe impact on their draft budget.

Man is there anyway that Starling falls to us? I am not getting excited for this, can't see it happening.

I think it's quite possible since he's most commonly mocked to go at 5 and if KC passes, he could make it to 9.

The last OF we drafted that was compared to Dale Murphy is currently trying to throw sliders in red sox extended spring training!!!!!!!!!!!!! JUST COUNTING HIS MILLIONS

It would be cool to get Starling, though. Not only would it rule for us, but it's always nice to [expletive] over Nebraska.

I'm not going to lie, I've read that there are some red flags about contact issues in some of the scouting reports about Starling.

I'm fine with taking Starling if we give him the 5 year deal and it allows us to spend plenty of money elsewhere during the draft. But, I do have some reservations about taking someone as toolsy as Starling is, with very little results shown to date.

On another note, Garrit Cole has struggled somewhat recently(last 2 starts) and I may even go as far as to say that I think Bauer is the guy I'd rather have between those 2. I know he doesn't have the same stuff as Cole, but it's not going to surprise me at all if he winds up as the better pro.

Josh Osich threw a no-no against Bauer and UCLA today, for what it's worth. Osich has put himself into late 1st round consideration at this stage in his own right. Great recovery by him.

Lindor @ No. 2 overall.

Few quotes:

Dylan Bundy: Big-time talent pitches at 96-to-98 mph but has touched 100. "If any scouting director has (guts), they'd take him No. 1,'' one scouting director said.

Lindor: "He's developed some pretty good pop,'' one scout said. He has an athletic build, a la Alfonso Soriano.

Frank (South Bend, IN): Will Sonny Gray or Dylan Bundy be there for the Cubs to take?

Conor Glassey: I think the Cubs have a much better shot at getting Sonny Gray. Sounds like Bundy (who reportedly hit 100 a couple weeks ago) will almost certainly be gone by then.

Bauer at 21???

I'll take any of Bradley, Barnes, Bauer, Lindor or Springer. Not a big fan of Gray because of his projection as a closer. I'd rather have a starter that early in the draft.

Bauer isn't making it to the Cubs, let alone 21.

I really want Bundy but that doesn't seem at all possible now. :(

Yeah, there's talk the Pirates may even truly consider him(Bundy) at 1. I actually think I'd rather have Bauer than Cole, if somehow we had a choice between the 2 at 9.(not happening)

rendon only has four home runs so far...he could drop.

please?

He's also got 60 walks in 140 AB or something ridiculous like that. Makes me wish we could trade up.

Taylor Jungmann seems to be dropping while going 10-0 with a .9 era so far this season and 14 walking in 89 innings.

Still hope Rendon or Starling find a way to slip, Boras making a ridiculous demand might help.

Bauer has thrown 673 pitches over his last 5 starts. Oddly enough, I think that's who I'm hoping the Cubs take. Don't think he's going to be there though.

We'll probably take some guy that no one has ever heard of again and he'll be awful *sigh* Wilken... Has he ever taken anyone that someone on this board had on their radar with our first pick?
