DFA

Every time someone mentions DFA with a player, it always takes me back to the Arizona D'Backs and Russ Ortiz. I mean Arizona was in financial troubles, yet the still ate a good 2.5 years, at least, left on Ortiz's contract, and yet the Cubs won't release ANYBODY unless it's absolutely, positively the only move to make, nevermind keeping said player is demoralizing a team with such bad play.

To me, there are very very few things in baseball more frustrating on a day-to-day basis than a relief pitcher who sucks hard and keeps getting trotted out there day after day, like the manager needs to prove some sort of point.

Lou is certainly proving a point to me.

That's because the Diamondbacks GM made a mistake and Jim Hendry has never, ever made a mistake.

The manager that trots him out there for the purpose of a lefty/righty matchup when the lefty at the plate is better against lefties? That's gotta be way up there.

Grabow is great in the clubhouse and improves morale.

That's why the Cubs are off to such a great start this season.

Who's worse....Grabow or Howry?

Grabow and it's not close.

I think you're saying things out of hurt and anger.

Nope.

Bob Howry's career: 3.79 ERA 1.24 WHIP

John Grabow's career: 4.19 ERA 1.46 WHIP

It's not that Hendry believe he has never made a mistake (sarcasm or not) it is that he'll never admit he made a mistake.

in howry's bad cubs year he had a whip of 1.43 and ERA of 5.35... with the cubs his ERA was 3.90 and his WHIP was 1.25. grabow's career WHIP is 1.45 and his ERA is 4.16, and his cub numbers have been far worse than that.

Maybe it's because he hasn't faced lefties enough. Nady's career numbers mean nothing, because he's a shadow of his former self.

His career year was 2008, and he didn't play last year. They said from the beginning he wouldn't be 100% until June. And he still had a decided OPS advantage against LHP going into today. I don't see what the problem is.

So, you value a .611 OPS vs LHPs from a guy who is not 100% healthy and missed a year over a guy who has a career .667 OPS vs. LHPs and has hit everything in sight from the RHPs he has faced all year?

When you consider the defensive advantage Fukudome has, there's no reason to keep running Nady out there without even a thought of putting Kosuke in there.

It's not like they just pinch hit for him there. Fukudome actually did play. Fukudome is on pace to play in 161 games this year. I just don't see the reason for angst about Nady/Fukudome.

No we value the guy who has a .302 .376 .464 .840 career line against LH pitchers over Kosuke against LH pitchers.

You might as well post Sammy Sosa's numbers against LHPs. What difference do career numbers make when the guy had a serious injury, missed a year, and still isn't 100% recovered from it. He has clearly shown he is not the same hitter he has been the rest of his career.
