ummmm i thought this was supposed to be a kick-the-tires minor league deal.

No kidding, it doesn't make any sense at all like this.

Is it possible that he's joining the team in Texas so Rothschild can do some BP sessions with him before they decide to activate him?

If they do add him to the roster I would think Berg would get sent down before Stevens.

Having Howry and Grabow as a 7th-8th combo will really save wear and tear on Marmol who will now pitch once a week to get work in games where the Cubs are winning or losing by 5 runs.

Well, they're only paying the pro-rated amount of the league minimum for him, so if he does suck, like we expect, it won't be all that hard for us to release him, at least. My guess is Grabow goes on the DL and we move Guzman to the 60 Day to clear a roster spot for him.

it doesn't REALLY matter, in the sense that this team is lousy and bob howry contributing half a loss of value before getting released won't make any difference in the grand scheme of things, but it sure is disheartening to think that we're still doing things like this.

LOL..A 1-2 punch of Howry and Grabow in the late innings...Im sure thats going to strike fear in the heart of all the opposing hitters. Its BP heaven in the late innings for hitters coming up.Even if were up 5 or 6 runs, thats going to be pissed away easily with these bums pitching.I hate you Jim Hendry..

As many have already said, I rather give Parker a chance over Howry, but whatever. At least David Patton was DFA to make room.

Yep, they DFAd Patton for Howry. I don't understand DFAing Patton when you could just shift Guzman to the 60-day DL, though.

Patton's been awful in Daytona and is 26. Maybe he was getting released anyway. I'm very glad we left him on the major league roster for 4 months last year. It really helped the ignorance of the front office shine through.

It wasn't so much a comment on Patton's value as it was the idea that we could have just kept the extra arm in the minors while moving Guzman to the 60 day. Not a big deal at all, though, and you may well be right that he could have been about to be released anyway.

I didn't realize just how bad he's been this year when I made the post, though.

Surely Antonio Alfonseca, Glendon Rusch, and Mark Guthrie need work as well. Make it happen Jim.

Has Shawn Estes been staying in shape?

this is awesome. anything to bring more attention to jim hendry's incompetence is fine by me.
