[expletive] ESPN. Not counting Sunday Night Baseball, I haven't watched a minute of it in months.

Ok, I know ESPN is bad, but I don't see the problem here.

One of the slowest professional athletes, who admits that he's one of the slowest professional athletes, is called slow by the biggest arms in sports media, and he's mad because they hurt his feelings?

I think the real problem here is expectations. As in, I think Bengie Molina expects far too much out of ESPN. They aren't what he thought they were. And that's not really their fault.

Exactly. Players expect ESPN to act as the PR agency they normally are for athletes. If this was some high school kid ESPN was picking on I would side with the player, but not a paid professional.

I think he's upset because they made fun of his being slow instead of talking about how other people on the team actually performed. It's a known fact that he's slow... move on.

So when his slowness is completely relevant to a play they are showing they cannot discuss it because it's already known that he is slow?

This is silly.

ESPN routinely does these little bits just to be funny. They have a history of showing the weird and wacky plays as well as all the highlights. When you're reporting news on only sports, which is primarily just a source of entertainment for us, you have to making your reports entertaining as well. I see no issue with what ESPN did and Bengie needs to lighten up.

If Bengie is upset for himself, then he needs to grow thicker skin.

If Bengie is upset for Giants fans, he's got a legit point. If there was only enough room to highlight one thing from that game, there were much better things ESPN should have focused on.

If giants fans are hungry for highlights, there are always much better options than an espn show.

sportscenter is basically worthless and people shouldn't watch it. the show is described on my dvr listings as "ESPN's flagship program provides a thorough presentation of sports news, highlights and analysis." i'm not exactly sure how Bengie Molina running slowly falls into thorough presentation of a Giants-Marlins game.

people should stop watching ESPN and watch highlights on MLB network; losing ratings the only thing that will get ESPN to be less terrible.

Because his slow running resulted in them not being able to score a run that nearly anybody else could have scored.

ok, so the giants scoring six runs, matt cain taking a no-hitter into the 6th inning and the giants winning the game are not worthy highlights but a guy running slowly is.

espn should just admit it's an entertainment show with very little real analysis of sports. that's a more accurate representation of sportscenter.

The legitimate point he made was that they decided to show him running slowly as a gag rather than show a legitimate highlight that summed up the game. The writer missed it, too.

Unfortunately, he also made a point that it was mean-spirited even though he agreed with the general sentiment. That really hurts his case, but the above shouldn't be overlooked. Especially by the writer of the article.

ETA: Hell, he even did kinda paraphrase Benji's point and didn't give him credit for it! "I didn't even think the ESPN knew there was baseball on the west coast." Duh, dude. That's exactly what the guy was trying to say, only he couldn't come right out and say it.

Mine is "a hip, emmy-winning daily scrapbook of homers, touchdowns, and slam-dunks" I thought that was a pretty accurate description.

Well, except for hip.

Bengie Molina is a dick, he has publicly stated that the only reason he's playing this year is to block Buster Posey which is infuriating to both Posey and to the Giants fanbase because he knows San Fransisco's management is too stupid to promote Posey and bench Molina anyway

The majors are supposed to be about the players, not you Bengie. Bengie's always been a jerk, that's why his wife left him cause all he cared about was himself. It's nice to be important, Bengie, but it's more important to be nice.

Is this somehow true? If so I like Bengie more now. The idea of somebody playing for the sole purpose of blocking a prospect is just terrific.

I still prefer Billy Koch refusing to sign with another team for the sole purpose of preventing the Blue Jays from saving a couple hundred thousand on his contract. Also, he went to the games and rooted against them.

I spent about 20 minutes looking for the quote, can't find it, but it pretty much amounted to "I had to wait around in the minors for a few years, so I'm gonna make him wait"

Which is super petty and he blows too, I love these quotes from Sabean about Posey:

""Triple-A baseball isn't very good," Sabean said. "I'm going to tell you that right now. Especially from a pitching standpoint. Anybody who can pitch is in the big leagues."

Don't you think maybe he's viewing it as a challenge to keep the job, and he's confident in his ability to play well, and thus justify keeping the prospect down longer? He's not the one who decides who gets playing time, who gets called up and who stays in the minors. He can't just say, "You know what, I'm going to play today, keep that kid in the minors" and have it be so.
