Bengie Molina is a dick, he has publicly stated that the only reason he's playing this year is to block Buster Posey which is infuriating to both Posey and to the Giants fanbase because he knows San Fransisco's management is too stupid to promote Posey and bench Molina anyway

what?

Is this somehow true? If so I like Bengie more now. The idea of somebody playing for the sole purpose of blocking a prospect is just terrific.

I still prefer Billy Koch refusing to sign with another team for the sole purpose of preventing the Blue Jays from saving a couple hundred thousand on his contract. Also, he went to the games and rooted against them.

wait, did this really happen? that's amazing.

I spent about 20 minutes looking for the quote, can't find it, but it pretty much amounted to "I had to wait around in the minors for a few years, so I'm gonna make him wait"

Which is super petty and he blows too, I love these quotes from Sabean about Posey:

""Triple-A baseball isn't very good," Sabean said. "I'm going to tell you that right now. Especially from a pitching standpoint. Anybody who can pitch is in the big leagues."

San Francisco must have felt Posey wasn't ready either, since Molina was a free agent and they did not have to bring him back.

Following the 2004 season he was signed to a 1-year contract by his original team, the Toronto Blue Jays. He was released by the team during Spring Training, at which time an angry Koch announced that he would not attempt to sign with another team, so that the Blue Jays would be on the hook for 'every penny' of his $950,000 salary. He has not played baseball professionally since then.

During Toronto's 2nd game of the season at Tampa Bay, Koch showed up at the game wearing a replica jersey of Aubrey Huff, at the time a Devil Rays player. Koch joked with the Toronto Bullpen, heckling the Blue Jays and calling one of the pitchers a "bum". Koch commented that he planned to take 240 students from his children's Tampa area grade school to the game, and planned to have them hold up a sign saying 'Go Devil Rays'.

I can't find a think about that Molina quote though.

HELLO NEW FAVORITE PLAYER OF ALL-TIME

derek bell we hardly knew ye

Operation Shutdown not hilarious enough for you anymore?

Bell gets a few points just for naming his 'operation', but it just wasn't as funny as Koch after "retirement".
