I see no reason to get worked up about a meaningless throwaway line like that.

It's just a really odd thing to say, so I hope the quote was taken out of context. To admit after getting destroyed that you underestimated the skill of the opponent is just a really perplexing thing to admit. Especially when people have rightly or wrongly questioned the team's overconfidence affecting their performances for awhile now.

I'm not so sure he was admitting they underestimated the skill of the opponent. They've all stated on many more occasions than this one line, that they realize how talented Vancouver is and how much of a challenge this series will be. I think he was just rationalizing a bad game and giving the media a quote.

promising: the fact that this team has shown multiple times in the playoffs that they can get off the mat when it looks like they're done. when they were down 2-1 and getting outplayed by the preds, they looked done. when they were down and shorthanded late in game 5, it looked like they were done. tonight early in the first, it REALLY looked like they were done.

i dont think you can really count them out anymore. they can look atrocious and then suddenly turn it on and dominate.

I agree, it's very promising that they can get up and dust themselves off. But I just have this nagging feeling that this is how it will end. Maybe not in this series, but I worry that their spurts of lackluster play will put them in a hole too deep at some point.

That said, even if they lose the next two in Vancouver, of course I won't feel like it's over.

Have they dug themselves out of a 3-1 hole these past 2 years?

I feel like they still need to win one in Vancouver or it's over.

Indeed, if they don't win one in Vancouver, they'll lose in 6.

They have only been in one 3-1 hole to even attempt to. Obviously you don't want to put yourself in a 3-1 hole, but I wouldn't count the Hawks out if they got into one. It just wouldn't be likely to beat a team thats probably as talented as the Hawks 3 straight times.

The Fratellis, a trio from Glasgow, announced on their website that they're no longer together.

I heard about that yesterday. Somehow, I think all of those guys will manage.

I feel like I watched a different game than bcl or Second City Hockey who was also high on Versteeg's play last night. His penalty was atrocious.

Yeah, I've been pretty down on Versteegs play this playoffs (actually the 2nd half of the season). Kind of funny that he scored that goal about 5 seconds after a horrific blunder, losing the puck when he was right in front of the net with Luongo down. But he redeemed himself. Last year when he was getting Calder nominations, I think people would have expected him to step up more this year, but if anything he stepped down a bit. Still, he's not a horrible 3rd or 4th line winger I guess.

Looks more like they're taking a break but will likely play together again down the road.

I thought he did some things well last night. He almost screwed up the game winning goal but their were a couple of times when I thought caused some havoc on the fore check and there were a couple of times when he was able to get to the net on some nice plays.

Yeah. I'm OK tonight though. I can afford to get up a tad later tomorrow morning for work.
