Additional ratings tidbit...

Last night’s series-clinching Game 6 of the 2010 Stanley Cup Final between the Chicago Blackhawks and Philadelphia Flyers registered a 5.8/10 overnight rating (8:15-11:15 p.m. ET), the best overnight for any Stanley Cup Final game in 36 years (7.6/27, Boston-Philadelphia, Game 6, 1974 on NBC).

The rating peaked for the final 15 minutes of the game (11-11:15 p.m. ET) with an 8.0 rating and 14 share. The 5.8 overnight is up 41 percent vs. last year’s 4.1/7 overnight for Game 6 between the then-defending Stanley Cup champion Detroit Red Wings and the Pittsburgh Penguins, featuring Sidney Crosby.

Amazing what happens when you get two large market american cities in the championship.

Wow...in the Chicago market the game had a 32.8 rating and a 50(!!!) share.

Yeah. As a Wings fan I appreciate that we are a solid tv draw, but for the overall game the NHL would be better with the Hawks and the Rangers being successful. It is great to see that the NHL is going in a good direction. I really appreciate the success of the Hawks, because living in Illinois hockey had been pretty much dead for years. Having people to discuss hockey with on a regular basis is cool.

I really, really don't want to be that guy who complains about bandwagon fans, but good lord I can't believe how many facebook friends I have who suddenly love the Blackhawks.

Second City Hockey has the team photo with the cup on the front page. The caption underneath?

"I only wish Kim Johnsson was alive to see this..." LOL

Timmonen pretty much confirms that the Flyers were gassed.

he should be absolutely ecstatic that the flyers got to game 6 of the cup finals, that team was left for dead so many times this year and in the post-season. all for nothing? that's pretty disrespectful to say, i understand emotions are running hot right after a loss in the finals, but the flyers outperformed all expectations and went farther than any one could have imagined them going at the beginning of the playoffs.

[expletive] you, timmonen.

Timonen refused to blame goalie Michael Leighton.

"We lose as a team and we win as a team. Of course they could always get a shutout on their perfect day, but it didn't go like that this time. It's no use to blame anyone."

I find it funny how willing so many are to blame Leighton, considering he had about the 2nd best save percentage and goals against average in the playoffs, and it could be argued quite easily that he outplayed Niemi. The difference was Chicago is better. They have more goal scorers and can stand toe to toe defensively. Without that amazing team in front of him, Niemi's effort, especially in the finals, would have looked disappointing. He was only considered a Conn Smythe candidate because he was the winning goalie.

If Leighton had an ordinary first period, that game would have been one long Chicago coronation party as they defended a four-goal lead.

it does seem surreal to know that our goalie won 16 games in the postseason, though.

Yeah but when you get that far in a postseason you believe you are going to win. You don't think you can win, or think you will win, you believe that you are going to win until it's not possible anymore. I don't think anyone on the Flyers expected to lose in Philly. You need confidence and a strong will to be a championship contending team and this flyers team oozed confidence.

After the Hawks landed at O'Hare around 4, they headed to Harry Carey's in Rosemont to celebrate with champaigne. Afterwards, a bunch of them headed to The Pony in Lakeview, which is like 5-6 blocks from my house and stayed there drinking jagerbombs until 7AM. Afterwards, Toews and his friends headed to Ann Sather near Belmont and Sheffield, aka steps from the Brown Line trainstop I was at to take the train to work today and ate breakfast until 10AM

From a private terminal at O'Hare International Airport, the team moved on first to Harry Caray's restaurant in Rosemont where from the outside, players could be spotted in the restaurant drinking beer, although champagne glasses were arranged on one table.

Afterward some teammates went to The Pony Inn, 1638 W. Belmont Ave. in the city.

They were still enjoying themselves at 7 a.m., with large crowds outside and bouncers protecting their privacy. Hundreds of screaming fans swarmed the players' waiting limos as they waited for a glimpse of the city's newest champions.

At the backdoor of the bar, several kids asked for a peek at the Stanley Cup. When Captain Jonathan Toews heard about it, he went out back to let them see it.

Meanwhile, those inside the bar said his teammates downed Jaegerbombs, the ubiquitous celebratory drink consisting of a Jaegermeister shot dropped into a glass of Red Bull. The players also downed caffeine-heavy sodas to help keep themselves awake.

By 9 a.m. the Pony party had broken up. Defenseman Niklas Hjalmarsson, who was the last to leave the bar, could not find a taxi on Belmont so he climbed into a Chicago Police car and was spirited away.

Toews and a few friends headed to the Ann Sather restaurant, 909 W. Belmont Ave. After ordering the Swedish diner's famous cinnamon rolls and a bagel sandwich, he took pictures with young fans and accepted their congratulations.

"He's about to have breakfast," general manager Adolfo Martinez said.

Toews left shortly before 10 a.m.

Probably haven't been the first to notice this, but nice shot Vader...

I heard on the score that Kane brought his infamous cousin on the ice and when an media guy tried to interview him Kane was like "THIS IS MY FAMOUS COUSIN!!" and the report goes "are you 2 going to share a cab tonight". Right after that Kane starts skating away and the reporter was asking him why he's leaving, and Kane replies "no more questions after that"

They had the reporter on the radio this morning, and he didn't catch on until after the fact. He had no idea.

Who is Buck? He apologizes to "Buck" around the 4:24 mark, but I have no clue who that is.

I would guess it was about his reaction to the "no cab tonight" line, which looked to come from somebody holding a 670 WSCR microphone. Not sure who that could be.

I'm so glad they won in Philly. I hate that city and its denizens so very, very much. I just wish the Hawks were a little more petty and rubbed their noses in it.

One of the best nights of my life. We drove to Wrigleyville about an hour after we won it and the scene there was absolutely surreal. I wish we went to the airport to meet the team there, but oh well. The parade's going to make up for that tomorrow.

Clinching in Philly, especially the way in which we won, made that moment all the more special. I still can't believe we won the Stanley Cup.

WE WON THE STANLEY CUP!

I'm happy for you Hawks fans... city obviously deserves it

but I'm glad it's time to look to next season - another season of unfulfilled hopes in Buffalo. :(

hey, kane said he'd bring the cup to buffalo for a day.

I'm really hoping Toews takes it back to the University of North Dakota for a day. The last UND guy to win did. If not, he'll take it to his hometown of Winnipeg and that's a nine-hour drive.
