The guy just wins. People who complain about his 3 points in 6 games in the Final, well, they are right because he seriously needed to bury some of those chances. But they also miss the point. He wins faceoffs. He blocks shots. He controls the puck along the boards. He just plain keeps the flow of the game in your favor.

I don't believe in "momentum" that much, but I do know that there is a flow to a hockey game. When you control the puck in the other team's zone, it can set you up for the next five minutes. When they have to clear the puck, you get to gather it up in the neutral zone and start over. If they finally do get control in the neutral zone, they probably have to dump and go for a change by that point, meaning you get to go right back at them. When Toews is on the ice, the Blackhawks control the game.

To borrow from the Avs announcer: This is the kind of talent that brings a franchise back from dead.

Nice recap, but you forgot to mention 2008-2009: NHL All Star. I think that's a worthy enough achievement to list.

I'm starting to warm up to the moment of confusion that ruined the play-by-play calls. It kind of reminds me of the Stanford band play, which is one of the greatest play-by-play calls of all time to listen to.

Puck taken by Campbell left point. Drops it to Kane on the left half-boards. Here's Kane now, juking his way to the left corner. He shoots HE SCOR- ... No, that's turned wide by Leighton. Loose puck in the crease. AND NOW IT'S IN THE NET! THEY SCORE! IT'S IN! IT'S IN! THEY SCORE! THE HAWKS WIN THE STANLEY CUP! THE HAWKS WIN THE STANLEY CUP! Leighton is down on his knees in the goal crease and that one looked like it slid past him into they net. They are going to go and take a look! They are going to take a look upstairs! Everyone on the ice - nobody knew where the puck was! Leighton froze in the goal crease, let's see what we have here. It's in the back of the net! THE BLACKHAWKS HAVE WON THE STANLEY CUP! Blackhawks fans around the world, you've endured 49 years of frustration but your patience has finally paid off! Lord Stanley's new address is sweet home Chicago! The Chicago Blackhawks have won the Stanley Cup!

I heard on the score that Kane brought his infamous cousin on the ice and when an media guy tried to interview him Kane was like "THIS IS MY FAMOUS COUSIN!!" and the report goes "are you 2 going to share a cab tonight". Right after that Kane starts skating away and the reporter was asking him why he's leaving, and Kane replies "no more questions after that"

They had the reporter on the radio this morning, and he didn't catch on until after the fact. He had no idea.

Congrats to all you life-long Hawks fans. While I think it's awesome that they won last night, I'm not going to pretend that it means 5% as much to me as it does to you guys. Enjoy it!

Who is Buck? He apologizes to "Buck" around the 4:24 mark, but I have no clue who that is.

I don't blame Philly fans one bit if they were booing Toews or anyone else. I would in their shoes without hesitation. But I suspect they were booing Bettman.

They were booing Bettman, but they were also booing Toews and a couple other things (like Buff holding the cup). Bettman tried to raise the mood by congratulating the Flyers on their season, and that took about 2 seconds to actually get them cheering and only lasted about 5-6 seconds.

i meant to mention this is a few days ago, but i don't think seabrook has gotten enough credit for his play in this postseason. i think he was hands down our best defensemen throughout the playoffs. very few turnovers or mistakes, and he was a complete beast physically. soooo many hits. keith was fine, but he just makes so many turnovers in the defensive zone. seabrook was almost flawless for the past 2 months.

Agree. He was a monster physically and without a doubt the best defensively in the postseason. He and Sharp are the two guys who I think have kind of been undervalued in the postseason. And of course Hossa but I think enough media people got on his bandwagon to change that.

Game #6 between the Blackhawks and Philadelphia Flyers, won by Chicago on a bizarre Overtime goal by Patrick Kane, scored a hockey-massive 5.7/10 overnight rating, likely making it the highest rated National Hockey League game in 37 years, breaking a mark that last year’s Penguins/Red Wings Game 7 set. This is perhaps the highest-rated game on record, and the first time I’ve ever seen a 10-share associated with an NHL game.

I guess a lot of the partying was on the north side near Wrigleyville. This is really the only championship celebration they have had in a long time.

what an odd post

Additional ratings tidbit...

Last night’s series-clinching Game 6 of the 2010 Stanley Cup Final between the Chicago Blackhawks and Philadelphia Flyers registered a 5.8/10 overnight rating (8:15-11:15 p.m. ET), the best overnight for any Stanley Cup Final game in 36 years (7.6/27, Boston-Philadelphia, Game 6, 1974 on NBC).

The rating peaked for the final 15 minutes of the game (11-11:15 p.m. ET) with an 8.0 rating and 14 share. The 5.8 overnight is up 41 percent vs. last year’s 4.1/7 overnight for Game 6 between the then-defending Stanley Cup champion Detroit Red Wings and the Pittsburgh Penguins, featuring Sidney Crosby.

Amazing what happens when you get two large market american cities in the championship.

Wow...in the Chicago market the game had a 32.8 rating and a 50(!!!) share.

In my mind I remember a gasp in the crowd when Kane does his little shake and bake in the corner. Watching highlights it sounds like they let out a groan when Campbell kept it in, then the excitement/anxiety built up quickly when Kane got it and then started toward the net. From being in the house for Game 3, I can only assume there were a bunch of shrill voiced women yelling, "HIT HIM" and some surly men berating their team's inability to clear/reacquire the puck.

At first I thought Boynton was trying to stop Kane from going down the ice because he didn't know what was up, but now it looks like he was one of the guys who knew, and given his position, he probably should have seen it.

Let's let this sink in.

The Chicago Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup.

The Chicago Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup with a dominating 16-6 record in the playoffs after statheads said they were the best team in the NHL all year, without once facing an elimination game.

The Chicago Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup with almost entirely homegrown talent as the core.

The Chicago Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup in an epic, high-scoring 6-game final in which all but one of the games were decided by one goal (excluding ENers) and the sixth was decided by two goals.

The Chicago Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup with the 15th overtime sudden-death Cup winner in history, scored by the face of the franchise.

Does it get better than this? I can't imagine how.
