really can't understate what niemi did for the team in the first period. the sharks came out on fire with legitmate scoring chances through most of the 1st, but niemi stood on his head. this allowed the hawks to get the soft goal and completely turn the game.

the sharks could have easily had a 2-0 lea dor something like that in the first 10 minutes, which obviously would have completely changed the way the game unfolded. niemi did this a couple times in the vancouver series too.

Coming into the playoffs, I was just hoping Niemi could keep us in games. I never expected him to be a huge part of victories.

Yeah back in the day on Mac, Jurko and Harry, they used to get in trouble if they discussed the Hawks on the air. And when they did, people would call in and tell them to stop. Also, it was only what 2 years ago that the Hawks had to pay the score to broadcast their games on the radio.

Up until this year, I was definitely one of the guys that would change the radio station when hockey talk started. I just wasn't into it at all. I think it was actually the game in Wrigley a year or two ago that first caught my interest a bit, and made me open my mind to the idea of liking hockey. Watched a couple of the games on NBC this year too, but it wasn't until I caught some of the Predator series that I really got into this. Now I'm reading freaking hockey blogs and forums and whatnot.

Definitely a fan made here.

Thanks for helping to make it a good drunk, Hawks.

Man, these two teams are a blast to watch. The pace at which they play up and down the ice is amazing.

From the "Everything is set up perfectly for a soul-crushing collapse department":

Teams that win the first two games on the road in the Conference Finals have won the series 14 out of 15 times.

Also, the Cubs haven't lost with Wood and Prior back-to-back all season.

In the minutes after Tuesday's game, several Sharks players said, there was much raw emotion flying around the dressing room before it opened to the media — and plenty of raw words were exchanged. Not sure if that would have happened last season.

"Some things were addressed here afterward," confirmed Blake. "There was emotion, yeah, and it will be good going forward.

Dan Boyle, the alternate captain, was probably one of the emotional speakers but said the specific elements of the postgame discussion "need to stay in the locker room."

Joe Pavelski agreed with that and paid the Blackhawks a compliment: "They're coming as advertised. They're a very good team. But it's nothing this group can't handle."

Like I said before, the first period of game 3 is going to show a lot about how the rest of the series will go. You would assume that if the Sharks had it in them to play a ton better, they will show it on Friday because obviously their season is on the line essentially. They probably have to win both the games in Chicago, but if they only win one its still possible they come back.

But after watching the Hawks execute their game plan in the last 2 periods pretty flawlessly, I can't see a way the Sharks win this series if the Hawks play the way they did.

i love it when you have the other team believing that yelling and screaming and fighting each other and throwing skates and equipment in the locker room is somehow cathartic and will make them play better.

the sharks may well win the series, but it won't be because of some locker room tantrum.

I've heard the reason why the Hawks are better on the road is because Q "simplifies the game plan" and they execute. If the Hawks can contain their emotions, and execute the road game plan at home then this series is over on Sunday. But there is a reason why the Hawks have struggle at home in the playoffs. With that said, split at home and there is a good change you end this series in San Jose in Game 5.

Agreed. If they do come back and win, it will be because they made the right adjustments and started playing better, not because they got in each other's faces and brow beat players who weren't performing.

A friend of mine has always refused to watch early season hockey because it pales in comparison to playoff hockey in terms of pace and intensity. I think every playoff game I've seen this year has paled in comparison to the pace from last night's game.

Even watching the Eastern Final (I only saw game one) is like night-and-day when watching the West.

A: The blogger sounds jaded or if you prefer something stronger, bitter comes to mind. To even suggest San Jose deserves it more the Chicago simply makes his blog invalid. There or no more bandwagon franchise in hockey then San Jose. I could buy Montreal deserving it more, I can even buy Philadelphia, but San Jose. So again to suggest Sharks fans deserve it more the Hawks fans is quite a delusional statement. The bandwagon fans don't deserve it, I agree, but THE Hawks fans, who live and died during the Hawks heyday before those days were put down by Bill Wirtz definately deserves a Cup. This blogger should have his blog taken down for such stupidity.

B: The blogger did this to bump up traffic on his blog, without question.

His first line invalidates his whole opinion. He's lived in Chicago for 5 years.

it's because chicago is a metropolis, not a suburb, not a burnt-out rustbucket ghost-town with one positive distinction, not a french-canadian one-sport town (sorry, two sport, if you count smoking cigarettes while sitting in cafes as a sport).

How dare you dismiss the Alouettes.
