I'm trying to decide if I want to cheer for the Canucks or Kings in their series. Normally I'd root for the upset, but if the Kings win their series, assuming the Blackhawks and Sharks end up winning their series as well, the Blackhawks will have to face the winner of the Wings/Coyotes series in the 2nd round.

Despite a topsy turvy opening night of the playoffs, I still expect the Sharks and Wings to advance in their respective series.

I found myself struggling as well. Then decided to pull for LA, at the very least it would prolong the series.

I just read a Predators blog, and they are pretty confident that they are going to win. Their belief is that Nashville got off to a bad start and since mid-October they have been as good as the Hawks over that timespan.

Since mid-october?

LOL, that's basically the beginning of the season.

Delusional.

Since the last time the Hawks played Nashville (the home and home sweep, putting the Hawks 8 up on Nashville instead of 4), the Hawks have still been better than Nashville by 4 points in a stretch that includes the terrible 3-week stretch after the olympics for the Hawks.

Thoughts from Sassone about what to do if/when Campbell returns:

For me, you leave everything as it has been over the last two weeks, just sub out Hendry for Campbell. Yes, that leaves Sopel to pick up the pieces after Campbell's inevitable stupid plays, but they need to keep the chemistry going from the last 10 games as much as possible.

I feel Buff was a huge force in front of the net last summer. If they could move him back to forward that might be helpful. I also wouldn't be that worried about carrying over chemistry from the last 10 games, considering they haven't played for a week, who knows if that will continue anyway. I'm not hockey strategist though, so I'm not going to worry about it.

That's a good point about Buff. But if I need to balance the value of Buff in front of the net vs. Hendry not playing, Buff stays on the blue line.

And wtf is wrong with Kim Johnsson?!????!?!?!

No kidding. I have to leave work early this afternoon for a doctor's appointment, but after that I'm going to have to find something to do to pass the time. Maybe even yardwork. Yikes.

Pretty sure he's dead.

Or like career could be over severely concussed

Don't forget teams the Hawks are playing are going to take their run at Toews, Sharp, Hossa and Kane and I prefer if Buff is out there ready to goon it up in case Nashville is feeling feisty. I don't want some player on a 2nd tier team like Nashville getting away with a cheap shot, so I want Buff out there as much as possible. If Buff can play like he did last year then the Hawks will be extremely tough to beat, even if you are the Sharks or Red Wings.

Did you mean last year during the season or in the playoffs? My memory of Buff in the playoffs(especially against Detroit) from last year is that he was more concerned about hitting people than playing hockey. And he was not really that effective at the hitting

Buff was a force in the first two rounds last year. Nothing really worked in that series, and they did get overly physical.

Q was trying to appease cynosure

All I remember from Buff in the playoffs was slyly blocking the goalie leading to a lot of the team's goals.

Strikes me Buff isn't the sharpest guy. You're not gonna get a lot of nuance through to him. He did take that one penalty against Vancouver when he punched (I think it was) Willie Mitchell in the mouth. And he did do a lot of hitting and loved roughing up Luongo.

Other guys are going to have to step that up, no doubt, in the offensive zone if he stays on the back end. Versteeg, Bolland, that means you.

So far the Hawks have come out with a crapload of energy. Some messy passes on the PP though. Couple good chances so far for the Hawks, while the few times the Preds got into our zone we've forced a TO right away.

Finally we clear it...just as I get done saying the Preds possessions inside our zone have been short they get a long long time in there.
