It just occured to me I have never read about what kind of arm Heyward has. Anyone know what the scouting report on his defense is? I'm just curious if he is going to be GG capable some day in addition to hitting 40 HR's and batting .300+ every year.

It's really good.

Soto, you had a 2-0 count, you gotta be looking for a pitch to swing at. That was it.

It's almost an automatic take on 2-0 it seems. There's something to be said for drawing walks and being patient, but in hitters counts like that you gotta take advantage when you can.

Expanding on that, from BA's scouting report on him in the offseason...

He has outstanding instincts on the basepaths and plus range in right field. His impressive body control allows him to make diving catches with relative ease, and his plus arm is one of the strongest in the minors with velocity, carry and accuracy on his throws. He also takes good routes on fly balls.

Geo took a similar pitch in his last AB too. Not only is it a hitters count, its a hitters situation, with Dempster on deck and only needing a fly ball to tie the game. You shouldn't be out there looking to walk unless the pitcher is unintentionally intentionally walking him.

In order of preference for possible Cubs seasons:

1) Playoffs and beyond

2) Competitive playoff race

3) Super-awful fun bad

4) Middle-of-the-pack

to me (1) have fun and erase the stain of milton bradley, (2)-(1000) everything else

I agree, but I wasn't just referring to Soto in that post, but rather the whole team.

[expletive] pats 5th inning replacement is awful.

Corey Provis was starting to grow on me, then he went to Milwaukee and they found this tool.

I didn't mind Provis. But this guy is freaking awful. His volume control seems to be set to random. He gets 'excited' over the most ridiculous stuff and then stays completely calm for more important plays.

"And the one-two pitch.....OUTSIDE! BALL TWO!....So ron, what was it like playing baseball for a living? I bet it was pretty swe...and Ramirez lines out to the third baseman. Inning over."

Thanks and damn I wish he was on Florida or Tampa so we could trade for him in a few years. Atlanta can pay him when he comes up for arby.
