If Butler and Duke play in the final then the Hoosiers references are going to be off the charts.

And 4/5 of the starting lineups would be white.

That's just not true. Butler's from Indiana, so they must be racist and all white, right?

I think Butler in the title game has some viewing appeal. I'd be more likely to watch that than MSU vs either team.

I'm hoping Baylor and Butler because it would be something different (and I hate Duke).

Seconded about Baylor, I hate Duke as well, but, Baylor' far more fun to watch.

Couldn't disagree more. Baylor is awful to watch.

A WVU/Mich St/Baylor/Butler Final 4 is going to be a ratings flop. Duke would help a bit.

I bet ESPN is hoping for bad ratings so the NCAA will feel compelled to opt out of its contract and they can swoop in and grab the tournament.

ESPN announcers doing the tournament would lead to a lot of muting at my place

I actually don't mind Duke all things being equal, but this 2nd half was a load of crap as far as reffing was concerned.

All things are never equal with ratface prowling the sidelines

I'm rooting for MSU because it wouldn't be right to root against Calipari and than somehow root for Pearl's team.

Because Pearl has had teams who have had to vacate 2 Final Fours and left two teams on probation? So baseless accusation is the same thing as TWO instances of NCAA punishment? Really?

There has likely never- ever- been a coach under more scrutiny than Pearl, and despite this, the NCAA has never had reason to sniff around at Tennessee under him. But, by all means, let's compare him to a coach who's never been to a Final 4, despite having taken two separate teams to one.

and lets not forget Pearl spent a lot of time in coaching purgatory for his mistake in the Deon Thomas affair.....and most Illinois fans seem to forget that they got put on probation for legitimate violations and still retained the assistant coach who was most responsible for the violations.

it's very simple. Bruce Pearl = Devil.

Whatever program lowers itself enough to hire him is my least favorite college in the country.

I'm not an Illinois fan at all. Bruce Pearl is awful shady; why shouldn't he be lumped with guys like Bob Huggins, Scott Drew and even Calipari?

Lack of institutional control: the most subjective punishment levied out by the NCAA.

Because he has never been investigated for cheating? I suppose that's not quite as subjective as lumping him in with those guys because you feel like he's shady, though.

He outright lied about the Deon Thomas incident. The NCAA found that nothing Pearl claimed was true. He was let go from Iowa for that very reason, and was in coaching purgatory for years as a result.

But yeah, he's never been investigated for cheating. Bold-faced lies are well into the realm of shady, though.

Okay, you want to call him shady? That's fine. Is it safe to assume that you agree that Pearl lying to NCAA investigators about another school cheating is the same as actually cheating?

I don't expect most Illinois fans to like Pearl. In fact, I understand the hatred. But to act like he's on the level with John Calipari is an utter joke.

Investigations for alleged cheating: Pearl with 0. Vacated FInal Fours due to cheating: Calipari with 2. HUUUUUUGE difference.

What part of recording a phone conversation with a high school basketball player without letting him know and lying about it wasn't shady? And all because he missed out on a recruit.

I'm pretty sure Scott Drew hasn't had an investigation against him either but judging from the recruiting tactics that have leaked out, one can tell he's pretty shady too.

So, it's apples to apples to compare Pearl to Calipari? Surely you don't really believe that? By that same logic, Neuheisel is as dirty as Kiffin, right?

It's just a silly comparison.

I never said it was an apples to apples comparison. I never said one was more unethical than the other. You've added that to the conversation.

Where did he say it was apples to apples. Calling both shady doesn't equate the two. Saying he's going to root against Pearl based on the same principle on which he rooted against Calipari doesn't equate the two.

A simple way to analyze how good Izzo has been is to add an 'Izzo' dummy variable to our logistic regression model. If we do that, it is highly statistically significant at a 99.99 percent certainty threshold (z = 3.63). Translation: it's very unlikely that the Spartans have just gotten lucky; Izzo has probably exhibited some real skill at captaining his team in the tournament.

So, let's make sure I have this correct...

Saying that Pearl and Calipari should be lumped together is not equating the two?
