Flipped over to ESPN just in time to see Digger wondering how Butler is going to score with Duke on Monday as if it's a lock that duke is going to score 75 points are something.

It's like he forgot Butler held Syracuse (80.9 ppg) to 59, Kansas State (79.7 ppg) to 56 and all five tournament opponents to under 60. I'm not saying that Butler is going to win (though I'm certainly rooting for it) but it's not like Butler skated through the tournament without playing some very good teams that can score.

I agree. This is a very good team Duke is up against and it's going to be a slugfest. If Duke can play more their style than Butler's, they will win. However, no team in the tournament has been able to do that yet.

I'm not sure we'll see a foul called the whole game based on watching MSU-Butler and the fact that Duke never gets any calls against them (ask Bob Huggins-that made me laugh).

I really wish refs would call games the same way on both ends of the floor. It really makes games hard to watch when they give one team everything and call it tight the other way.

WVU got 4 more calls than Duke that game, plus a tech.

let everyone ignore reason - obviously duke got all the calls some guy cried about hurting his knee.

as long as the Refs allow Duke to go over the back on every play Butler doesn't stand much chance unfortunately.

my favorite is when zoubek sets a screen out near the 3 point line and then starts pushing the defenders toward the basket while singler or scheyer spot up and hit a wide open three.

he's definitely good at college basketball

I think he'll have a decent NBA career. If Singler were a Euro people would be drooling over him when the draft rolls around.

when your team stands around chucking threes all day, they're not going to draw a ton of fouls.

well then they'd be dumb.

i guess he can be your typical soft NBA 3 who can score a little bit but sucks on the boards and on defense.

Ok honest question.

I know the Sox-Yanks game will be on but are there anyone at least slightly intrigued with the Baylor-UCONN girls game?

And yes, that is a real question.

Singler's rebounding isn't all that different than most players of his type(big, perimeter oriented guard/SF). Look at X Henry, Butler, Pondexter, Anderson, etc, they aren't too abnormal.

i can't stand women's basketball, but i'll definitely have it on. I want to see what UCONN does to that giant baylor center.

That Baylor/Duke Elite Eight game was terrible. But I think this is the best shot at someone taking down UConn ... though that's not saying much at all.

If the Baylor center gets into foul trouble, Baylor's gonna lose by 40.

I'm interested in it. I don't think there's much of a chance Baylor wins, but if they're going to, Griner will have to have a really big game. I think she can play well against Tina Charles, but Maya Moore (and a few others) are still going to be tough to stop.

Yeah, I felt like the winner of the Tennessee/Baylor game would have a shot at UConn (probably the best in the tournament). That said, if Baylor (or UT if we had beaten Baylor) is going to win, they'll have to play a fantastic game.

duke is even better than i thought they were

when the big three are all on, we are near unbeatable

i feel pretty good about the butler matchup

An excerpt:

From: Taylor, Jennifer

Sent: Friday, April 16, 1999 2:55 PM

To: Brand, Elton

Subject: Leaving Duke

I graduated from Duke last May and just wanted to express my disgust for your decision to leave the Duke program after only two years. As an alum, not only do I hold the school in high regard, but the basketball program as well, especially since both have deservedly garnered such a great deal of respect for their accomplishments.

As part of our basketball program, you represent Duke as a whole. We are first and foremost an academic school, you clearly did not belong at Duke in the first place if this was the extent of your commitment to Duke and a college education in general. You have not only insulted the current students who are putting in four years at a school they love, but also the thousands of alumni who have realized the value of a Duke education and what an honor and privilege it was to be there for four years.

If you do not realize the opportunity you has infront of you to play for Coach K and at the same time attain a Duke diploma, then that is certainly your loss. I just wish that you has spared us the notion that you were continuing in the tradition of being a Duke student-athlete, in emphasizing excellence in both academics and athletics. You will not be considered part of the Duke family, in my mind as well as many others. You have by no means proved yourself worthy of that title.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Taylor

And Elton Brand's response:

Thank you very much, for reminding me of the reason why I left Duke. People like you can not and will not ever understand my situation. I'm sure daddy worked very hard to send your rich self to college. While real people struggle. I would also like to extend an invitation for you not to waste your or my time ever agin. Never being considered a part of your posh group of yuppies really hurts me to the heart. Yeah, right. Because I don't care about you or your alumni.

Sincerely, Elton Brand #42 NBA

After reading Elton response I wonder if he ever attended class while he was at Duke.

Jennifer Taylor's email wasn't so hot either.

Neither was the post you quoted, so we're all losers in this equation. (Except for Brand, who is a millionaire. And probably Taylor, because she has a Duke degree.)
