Arkansas is a good but not great program in a down period, while Mizzou is still searching for a Final Four and has never won the Big 12.

No kidding. One tournament win since 1999 and they haven't even been on the radar since 1995. And they've had to compete against all those basketball crazy schools like LSU, Alabama, Auburn and the two Mississippi teams. I'm surprised any coach would want to take that challenge.

Arkansas has been to six Final Fours or the 10th most all time. Arkansas has a National Title. Arkansas plays in a 20K seat arena. Arkansas is arguably the second most successful program in SEC history. Arkansas is a program where you can win big.

Mizzou has 0 Final Fours, has never won the Big 12, and ranks below Kansas, Texas, OSU and arguably Kansas State in terms of basketball tradition. Arkansas is a step up from Mizzou, and you were just used the way Self used Illinois. Accept it and move on.

Good grief do you care an awful lot about basketball played before you were born. If you think Anderson went to Arkansas because it was a step up the ladder in program prestige, you're kidding yourself because you don't like Mizzou. Arkansas has (old) history on their side, but they also have to recruit players who were 3 years old the last time Arkansas mattered in the college basketball world. It's not necessarily a worse job than Mizzou, but it certainly isn't a clear upgrade. I'm not trying to play up Mizzou as a blue blood position, but Anderson went to Arkansas because he spent 17 years there and got a raise to do so.

Who is saying Missouri is a historically better program? You said Arkansas was a far better job that's just going through a down period, without noting that down period has lasted for 12 years and recruits don't give a sht about Corliss Williamson. It is far easier to win at Arkansas, but CMA will not be any closer to winning a national championship.

God, this is like a poor mans Bill Self cry fest. Arkansas is a better job, and he's going home.

Is Arkansas really a better job? The SEC is hot garbage and has been for some time.

It's not, but apparently a 10% raise and his past there was enough to convince him I guess.

The situation sucks, but at least I don't have to worry about Jimmy Sexton's sleaze anymore, and Mike Alden has made very good hires for a decade running. Hopefully the new guy can get some momentum with a senior heavy team next year and then make some headway with his own guys. Keeping Phil Pressey and/or getting Otto Porter would be a nice bonus too.

You said right here it's not a better job, and you still haven't supported why Mizzou is a better job than Arkansas. Other than the brand new "Mizzou Arena" I cannot think of a single advantage Mizzou has over Arkansas. Sure, Mizzou is a decent program, but its nothing special.

"Arkansas is not a clearly better job than Mizzou" is not the same as "Mizzou is clearly a better job than Arkansas".

Was anyone aware that there is a 4th post season tournament? I got a voicemail from Matt Doherty asking for support tomorrow night as SMU plays in the Final Four of the CollegeInsider.com tournament. I had no idea this even existed.

Again, who is calling Missouri special? Nobody here thinks its Duke or UNC and nobody would call it a destination job. You're just making stuff up at this point.

Now you're changing the words around. It only says "better job" not "clearly better job." If that is the debate then I would probably be inclined to agree with you that Arkansas is not clearly better.

However, you agreed with Andy that it was not a "better job," which implies you think Mizzou is either equal to or better than the Arkansas job. I don't believe that to be the case, and that's where my argument was coming from. I'll just shut up now, and we can just agree to disagree.

With that said, I hope Mizzou does not regress back to Snyder era performance with their next hire. I hate losing to you, but the last couple years have been much more fun.

It's been going on for a few years. I believe it started either the same year as the CBI or one year later.

Jeremy Hollowell is going to be a Hoosier! \:D/

I've heard conflicting eyewitness reports on how good he is but it's nice to have another player that highly ranked. With his height he still has plenty of room to fill out as well.

It's a shame UCLA didn't beat Florida, they would have gotten Gus announcing today. Gus Johnson will be doing Florida vs BYU & Wisconsin vs Butler tonight.

Well given the depth of that class it isn't like he will need to carry the load himself.

Just need Gary Harris to step on down now to complete the Super Six. :good:

I've seen him quite a bit, and he is very skilled. He shot 40% from 3 this year on a team that still doesn't give him a ton of help. A lot of people say he "drifts" or loses focus, but I think a lot of that is just his demeanor and how easy he makes things look. He's not the athlete that Gary Harris is, but he's probably a bit more versatile due to his size and ball handling skills. The only times I've seen him look disinterested is vs. inferior competition or when he's forced to play with his back to the basket extensively. Otherwise, he's got all the tools.

I still think Gary Harris is the better player now and in the future, but Hollowell can be very, very good.

Why was Painter ever mentioned with the Missouri job?

Bernie Miklasz has been talking about it on the radio today. Apparently Painter had some escape clause specifically put into his contract that kicks in at the end of this season. He also said he talked to somebody he trusts that gave him the info and he even mentioned it to Andy Katz when he was talking to him on air. He said he was going to tell Katz who to call off air. Bernie doesn't tend to be one to blow smoke for no reason, so there may be something to it. He even admitted that it doesn't make much sense but there are a few reasons he mentioned to think there might be something to it, even if it is just Painter using it to get a raise since he's only making a paltry 1.2-1.3 million.

Bernie Miklasz is a no nothing goof, and Matt Painter is only "interested in Missouri" for the purposes of raising his salary at Purdue. I need to find a reporter that will start a good Chris Mack to Mizzou rumor, then maybe they'll actually look into him.

He may be a less than eloquent fat slob, but he usually has good info and doesn't have a tendency to spread stupid rumors.

This seems like just a way for Painter to get a raise. Although it is funny because there are plenty of other jobs out there which he could have feigned interest in. Maybe as mentioned a while back it is a way for him to advocate for Cuonzo Martin.

He's also fat.

Anyone watching Northwestern-Washington State?

Northwestern tied the game with about four seconds left and Washington State comes down and the guy gets fouled with .2 on the clock. But he missed both free throws and they're going to overtime.

I saw it. Sad way to see Michael Thompson's career end.

Tennessee's top five candidate hopefuls to replace Pearl have leaked out:

According to the source, who requested anonymity because all of the coaches have yet to be contacted, UT plans to have a coach in place within the next two weeks.

The five coaches that were at the top of UT’s list after Bruce Pearl was fired on Monday are:

Pittsburgh coach Jamie Dixon.

Villanova coach Jay Wright.

Alabama coach Anthony Grant.

Texas A&M coach Mark Turgeon.

Wichita State coach Gregg Marshall.

Dixon and Wright seem like pretty clear pipe dreams as I see no way the Tennessee job is better than Pitt or Villanova - unless we simply offer a ton more money (and even then I don't see it). A couple names I'd also like them to look at (aside from another pipe dream, Brad Stevens) are Shakha Smart and Cuonzo Martin.
