The thing about it is, Illinois should play well enough to get into the tourney, and if McCamey and Richardson shoot well in the tourney they can go a long way if the team plays decent defense. All it takes is a couple guys getting hot from the field and the Illini look unbeatable

The problem is they fold way too often down the stretch in tight games.

Yep. Because they play too tight. Last night when it was tied and Weber called the time out as Paul was alling into the backcourt when it was tied without about 3 to go, our kids looked scared as crap in the timeout. The Mizzou kids were jumping up and down and excited. I don't get why our kids seem so scared and timid.

And apparently Bruce had a meltdown at the press conference.

I'm not concerned with the Illini's defense at all; it's the offense I'm concerned about. If we can get to the foul line more I think we will win more games. When you only shoot 12-17 free throws and you don't shoot well you're not going to be really good. I don't know why DJ Richardson and Brandon Paul no longer cut and slash to the basket as they did at times last year. When they begin doing that and hitting jumpers they'll score more thus the team will score more. I still think the Big Ten may not be as good as advertised. Ohio State beat Florida but other than that haven't played anyone (I guess you can count South Carolina). For some reason I'm more concerned with Bo Ryan's team than Tom Izzo's. I think Bo Ryan could take a team of 12 year olds and figure out a way to win 6-8 college games (okay I'm exaggerating but you get my point).

IU is turrrrible. :?

QFT

Colorado? Really?

Crean's coaching in the two Vegas games was very...........um............bizarre.

Was ESPN's box score right on teh starting lineup for the UNI game? It had Roth, Rivers, and Moore listed as starters. I have to assume that was a screw up right?

I still am curious why Moore is getting any tick at all

Pretty sure that was a mistake. However, at this point he's no worse than Verdell Jones or Mo Creek. One is a turnover machine and the other has no explosiveness. Neither can shoot right now nor play any D. This team has a looooong way to go. (Like 2 years or so).

Big 10 season is going to get ugly.

Nah, I think the starting lineup for UNI was Hulls, Rivers, Creek, Elston and Watford. Moore and Roth definitely did not start. Roth plays more minutes than Moore at this point. Daniel barely saw the floor in the last two games. And yeah I don't know why Moore plays although try telling that to the IU fans who love OMG GRITTY INDIANA KIDS.

Here are the things bothering me about IU right now:

-Verdell has too much free reign. When he is on the floor he tends to dominate the ball too much, the offense stagnates and he ends up making a one-on-one move to the basket. He still turns the ball over too much and when he does get fouled going to the basket he can't make a free throw. He isn't very bright on defense either.

-Creek hurts us more than helps us I think. He still either isn't 100% on that knee or doesn't trust it yet. His shot isn't there yet and his lateral quickness on defense is bad. Which is why against Colorado I was a bit confused by Crean assigning him to defend one of Colorado's better scorers? I'd say Rivers and Oladipo are by far our best one-on-one defenders and those guys should be getting the tough assignments not Creek.

-Our overall defensive play is miserable. This team seems to have no concept of help defense and they rarely rotate properly. It is just killing them because they can't get critical defensive stops. For being a team that returns about everyone from last season, I really don't understand why they haven't learned some basic, fundamental team defense.

-Crean's sub patterns just seem random and erratic. We'll take Jones off the floor and make a run, then Crean puts him back in and we fall behind again. Which I suppose goes hand in hand with reigning Verdell in. Last night Elston gave us some good offense in the first half and then doesn't play at all in the 2nd half? Very confusing.

IU just isn't playing smart basketball and does not look like a well coached basketball team right now. A year ago at this time I kind of understood us looking that way but right now I don't understand it at all.

The Big 10 knows that Texas isn't all that good, right?

News out of warmups is that English hurt his ankle/heel and is limping around right now. Super.

I actually think that Rick Barnes has improved as a coach since last season. Any improvement is a lot for him, but it was unexpected none the less.

If it helps, Colorado isn't that bad. They'll probably be an NIT team.

Doesn't help. IU IS that bad. :banghead:

You haven't lost to a D-3 school yet. It can't be that bad.

neither has oklahoma.

Chaminade is D-2? Huh. My point still stands.

They are D-2 now. They were NAIA back when they were famous for beating Virginia and Louisville.

im pretending like we just don't have a team this year. It barely even resembles basketball at this point and it's gonna be at least 18 years before another Griffin kid is eligible.

Only 4 schools have both their football & men's basketball teams in the Top 20.

Ohio State

Michigan State

Missouri

Texas A&M

How many has Gameday been too :-)?
