i've gone over it again and again in my mind, and every time i weigh the pros and cons of illinois vs. stanford for randle, i come up with stanford. especially for a kid who has lived in the qc all his life.

the only things that illinois clearly leads on are the chance to win a national championship and being able to play with tracy abrams, and perhaps the price of travel and hotel accommodations for his parents. but he can start right away at stanford and get a world-class education in one of the world's foremost cosmopolitan areas. i just don't see being buried on the bench his first couple of years and living in the champaign area as any competition, even with the abrams factor. the fact is, randle really doesn't know anyone else who's going to be on the team well, so familiarity isn't all that huge of an edge.

Nevermind, press release around 1 PM now.

What's funny is that I was upset when I read your post because I'll be on a conference call at 1pm so I won't get the news until later.

Then I realized I'll still get it before the 3pm time, so I should be happy. funny how the mind works sometimes.

randle to stanford.

i hope he falls off a cliff.

I don't. I just think Chasson did not want to be at Illinois. He's afraid of the guard situation. I think he's a great talent but I think that also says a lot about his competitive mindset. Clearly winning and competing for playing time were not things he was interested in.

If he makes the league he's made the right decision. If he uses his Stanford degree to get into medical school he's still made the right decision. I wish him the best of luck.

he's not an NBA prospect and if he wants to go to medical school there's virtually no difference between an undergrad degree from stanford or illinois.

i know you're just trolling but that's not true at all. there are a couple things illinois does better, and basketball is one of them.

Illinois has had its moments, but it's not like they are some behemoth. I've said since the time I was in college that if I had it all over again I'd go to Stanford in a heartbeat. If somebody has an opportunity they should go there, especially over Champaign.

well, it's never too late to make a fresh start for yourself.

but seriously, stanford is not better at everything than illinois. most things, but not everything.

I liked:

i hope he experiences the most depressing level of failure on the basketball court.

better.

i also implied that i hope he dies from grief after watching the illini win a national championship while stanford continues their long tradition of losing.
