bummer for the hawks.

Indeed. It's hard to fault the kid though. His game fits the Badger system, and Wisconsin is a far better situation to step into. I guess the next best player in Iowa would be Oglesby?

Who Iowa has yet to offer despite his all but begging for one.

Yeah a lot of fans are puzzled by that one. I like him a lot more than Uthoff but I think the coaches might be concerned he doesn't really add anything new to the roster. Whereas at Illinois he can really come in and have a defined role and be a good compliement to what they have.

Iowa's #1 target for next year is a kid Devin Coleman from Philly whom Fran has been all over for like 3 years going back to his Siena days. He has offers from A-10 schools, Rutgers, etc. but apparently Cincy, Virginia and others are close. Iowa is on top right now but I'm worried he gets the Big East offer he wants, Oglesby commits somewhere else and then they're on plan c.

Is Iowa going hard after Jok yet?

Watching him but they haven't offered yet. I'm not sure what offers he actually has thus far. They have like 4 main targets for the '11 class but 2012 is the big one. 3 top 100 kids in Iowa. They sit pretty well with Woodbury the big. Marcus Paige a PG, is a top 25 kid overall and they had zero chance with Lickliter. He and his family really like Fran and his staff but once (if) the Kansas offer comes it's going to be tough.

They need to start sealing the deal with some of these '11 kids pretty soon but it's nice to actually be recruiting athletes again and at least have a chance with some players.

KU has offered Josiah Turner (PG, 2011) and Nino Jackson (PG 2012). They may have offered Randle (PG 2011), too. They may take 1 PG in each year, so if we grab Jackson and Turner/Randle, I can't imagine we have room for Paige.

I don't believe you've offered Randle, and despite what some doom and gloomers say, I think you've waited too long. I think he's Illinois or Purdue unless Duke gets involved soon

I think he ends up at Illinois.

I don't. I think he's waiting and hoping athat nother guard takes that scholarship so he doesn't have to say no to us though. His loss, we are gonna be loaded.

Along with the coach who called the women, "the gestapettes," another said, "If the NCAA was serious, they'd hire someone who knew what they were doing, not these women out here trying to get a husband.''

And they said this to a woman interviewer

Illinois cannot afford to get caught cheating in a major way. We are known for the slush fund, and the NCAA dropped the hammer on us with little evidence in the 90's because of it. Thus, Guenther runs a clean ship.

UK, can you name one recent recruit where you think there was foul play?

Yeah, really. Illinois in general is never corrupt.

kentucky is a semi-literate state and they're spending their entire budget on a basketball coach. of course they're cheating.

although probably not as much as usc football.

Let's get real. The biggest reason Illini fans are convinced they couldn't possibly be skirting rules is because they haven't won squat at anything. The past NCAA stuff is a convenient excuse.

By the way, Iowa offered Josh Oglesby. Sounds like he's kind of pissed they waited so long though. I wouldn't be surprised if he picks Illinois.

I'd love to get him. With the group we have we need a knock down shooter.

I think we are in a tricky spot. I'd much rather have Randle but I dont think he is going to pull the trigger until fall. Taking Oglesby early would end our chance. I'll put my trust in Bruce on this one, but watching Randle at PU would be hard for me to swallow.

You really think players like Richmond and Abrams decided on Illinois based on being in-state, the lovely Champaign-Urbana area, and the Illini basketball tradition?

There's no doubt that programs that are able to recruit players like this are going to be recruiting players that are involved in some way with an agent. It might be several degrees of separation from a school to shield them from any wrongdoing, but at the same token, a coach knows whether or not a player has rec'd anything illegally despite playing dumb when [expletive] hits the fan ala Carroll.

richmond committed before he was in high school and abrams committed after his freshman year. i doubt they were offered anything in terms of compensation. if you're after money, why sell yourself short like that, anyway? conversely, why offer players money if you're not sure they're going to be worth paying?

the mercenaries that kentucky hires are nothing like regular college players. at all.
