The Duk-Soo High School product is said to have a 148km fastball(roughly 92 mph).

I prefer it in KM. 148km just sounds nastier

Moving this where it belongs and merging it with the existing thread...plus now seems like as good of a time as any to start the 2010 International FA Market thread.

$1.2m? Holy crap.

That might one of the longer strides I've seen.

Reminiscent of Tom Seaver. Remember his stride? His right knee was practically scraping against the ground with every pitch.

Let's hope this guy's as good...

Ties Hee-Seop Choi for second biggest bonus the Cubs have given a Korean (Jae-Kuk Ryu got $1.6 in 2001).

Cal, I was trying to remember what catcher Kweon got. Do you know? I thought he was pretty pricey...

You are thinking of Yoon-Min Kweon (6'2" 210 lbs.), a catcher signed by the Cubs in 1999. I believer he received $250,000. He was 21 years old when he signed. He topped out in AA with 6 AB in 2004. His best year was at Lansing of the Midwest League in 2001. He hit .270 in 326 AB with 6 HR & 51RBI.

I love it. It's a really good sign he's dropping and driving, as opposed to that stupid tall and fall.

Kris (Chicago): Thanks for answering my first question, Kevin. This will be my last one(albeit in two parts): What have you heard about Kim Jin-Yeong, the Korean pitcher that the Cubs reportedly signed for $1.2 million? Speaking of Korean pitchers, what do you expect from Dae-Eun Rhee, once he returns from TJ surgery?

Kevin Goldstein: Yeong is very intriguing. Smooth easy arm with projection, already 90-92 mph as a teenager. Rhee really was one of the better arms in the Midwest League when healthy, so I'm looking forward to his return.

This is really great, the Pac Rim signings continue. It's like adding a 1st round pick to your minors, in a way, based on his bonus anyway. Gotta wonder with him signing so early, if he plays all summer long for us too, maybe Boise this year? I would think he'll be getting here soon and into minor league camp. Bottom line, I LOVE what we are doing in the Pac Rim. Especially since the early returns on some of these guys(Lee and Rhee before he got injured) have been extremely positive. Really looking forward to seeing what Kim, Jung, Na, Chen, and the Wangs can do this season, along with Yeong, if he gets here in time.

Also, this is a great sign that the Ricketts seem to be making good on their promise that they really want to emphasize the minors.
