Very odd, and a little disappointing, to be getting so many rematches from yesterday again next weekend.

I think it's kind of interesting. And I disagree with those who said the end of the season sucked. There were meaningful seedings questions (especially when that involves domed teams and cold weather teams), and the entire AFC was fighting for 2 wild card spots. I enjoyed the last two weeks of this NFL season much more than I enjoyed the last month of baseball.

Please don't choke Packers and I guess go Cowboys. I prefer to avoid a rematch with the Vikings.

Not me. I want the Vikes. Knocking Brett Favre out of the playoffs would be better than sex.

When was the last time an NFL wild-card playoff game featured a week 17 rematch, much less three?

It's definitely happened more than a handful of times. I am drawing a blank on examples but it's happened multiple times in the last maybe 10 years (1 rematch that is)

It's happened. I think it's kind of boring though. What would make it interesting is if one of the losers comes out and turns the equation on its head. If all the week 17 winners just win again, it will be one of the least interesting Wild Card weekends in memory.

I don't get what is boring about it. It's a new game. Some of the games involved 2 teams playing with purpose, some involved one team with much more purpose than the other, and some involved 2 teams playing for next to nothing. I think you are likely to see some different outcomes this week. It is very difficult to beat a good NFL team twice.

let's hope the bengals were just messing with the jets yesterday.

The game wasn't that meaningful for the Bengals, I'd be surprised if they showed much of their gameplan last night.

I agree but trying or not there's no excuse for your starting QB to go 1-11 for 0 bet yards or for your entire offense to gain the least amount of net yards in franchise history.

Combine that with how poor they've been playing as of late and things aren't great in Bengal land heading into the playoffs.

This is true. There's room for some optimism, though, as the Jets showed exactly how they wanted to play the Bengals last night, while there's still some mystery about how the Bengals will gameplan the Jets. If they don't play better, though, it won't matter.

You can't always glean a pattern from the end of a regular season and extrapolate it to the playoffs. It's not that long ago that Rex Grossman was putting up a 0 QB rating in the final regular season game and yet the Bears made it to the Super Bowl.

It's a new game, but it's the same teams. I don't get what you don't get about it. Sameness is boring. Different-ness is less boring.

I intended to root for the Colts, but I can't root for them after the "pull the starters" crap they've pulled the last few weeks.

Instead, I'm adopting the Saints as my playoff team.

Because if there's a team that hasn't been pulling crap the last few weeks, it's the Saints.

For me its because they pulled players despite a chance to go undefeated. The Saints didn't pull players in the game they lost to the Cowboys and it sounded like they were fully intending to go for 16-0 the last couple weeks had they beat Dallas.

I don't really care if team's pull players because they've locked up the top seed or something like that, but going undefeated is something different.

Same team but completely different context for all the games involved. Teams play division rivals twice a year, and only one of these matchups is a three timer. I really don't think it's boring at all. It's playoff football, that is glorious. And how can a baseball fan complain about teams playing each other more than once in playoff season? Dallas/Philly is always good for side stories, Arizona/GB should be a great pass happy matchup. The Jets game might be boring but that has a lot more to do with the fact that they are a boring team than that they are playing the same team this week.

lol, ESPN

Seems a little early to be calling that type of stuff.

It might be a questionable selection, but the week before the playoffs start is hardly too early to start listing who you think the favorites are going into the playoffs.

Terp predicts the winners of the playoffs shortly after the Super Bowl.

Written by a Baylor grad who worked for the Dallas Morning News. This is fueled more by the Saints and Vikings than anything the Cowboys have done.

I remember one year that the Colts lost big to the Broncos in week 17 (the usual Peyton Manning one-series-and-done), then turned around and beat the Broncos (and I don't think it was even close) the next week in the playoffs.

2003-04 Wild Card Game: Colts 41, Broncos 10.

2004 Week 17: Broncos 33, Colts 14 (with Manning, et al, resting).

2004-05 Wild Card Game: Colts 49, Broncos 24.
