I don't see how CF on the all-decade team can't be 2008 Edmonds. Nobody else was particularly close.

I love Jimmy, but defense matters

Enough to overcome the overwhelming offensive advantage Edmonds had? Really, then, the only other player close was 2003 Patterson, as none of the Cub CFs were particularly good defensively either aside from Patterson/Pie. 2003 Lofton was at best average defensively with a decent offensive push in the second-half 2003.

Nomah in 2004 wasn't particularly good for Nomah, but it was still leagues better than Theriot/Gonzalez/Gutierrez/Cedeno offensively, and only Gonzalez would have an argument defensively (except, you know, 2003 game 6 disqualifies him from any discussion of value from that year).

I think 2003 CPat would have a damn good argument against '08 Edmonds (both played ~half a season)

2004 CPat was one of the more underappreciated seasons i've lived through. A lot of people thought he sucked out loud that year. He was pretty damn good if you buy that he was a good-great defender.

Maybe the anti team should be opening day starters, as in guys somebody thought was an acceptable starter for the year, like Chris Stynes.

In that case...

I see your Ron Coomer and raise you a Willie Greene.

Did not consider Greene. You are probably correct, though Coomer was pretty crappy. I should have made Roosevelt Brown, Bobby Hill, Neifi, and 2005 Todd Hollandsworth honorable mentions as well

As far as PT considerations, I think an AB or games minimum works better than opening day roster inclusion. For instance Damon Buford may have started on opening day, but he only had 89 PA for the year.

You mean dishonorable mention. :D

just kind of looking over all these stats, something really came out to me. The Cubs bench in 2008 is really really good. In 2009 it was really really bad

Willie Greene is ahead of Andrews on the anti-depth chart (look at their rate stats), but I picked Coomer because wanted to honor a guy who managed to be a huge sinkhole on an otherwise above average team while also being regarded as a complete Jerk, IIRC.

While I'm at it, let me note that Coomer had 23 GIDP in only 389 PA in 2001.

Shane Andrews managed an .803 OPS for the Cubs in 2000. Coomer was nearly 100 points below that. Both played crappy defense.

I don't know about Coomer, but I think Stynes was considered a jerk by many, and was the guy who threw a ball toward a media members head (missing)

Ooooo good call, I definitely confused the two players. Stynes has a case for making the team, hitting .241/.314/.374 in 100 games at third. He should at least be on the bench.
