Waiting for Notre Dame to change their mind, be added as the 12th team and stop there.

Sorry Nebraska.

Nebraska's in. You'll need another if Notre Dame changes their mind.

They're sort of in. There's nothing in ink yet, I'm sure the Big Ten has let them know they're good to go but if Delaney wants to turn super-heel, he could hit Nebraska with a chair and reveal a leprechaun shirt.

oh man would that be the greatest thing to ever happen. especially if doing that somehow opened a sinkhole that swallowed columbia missouri

you'll miss this place when your football road trips consist of visits to Springfield to take on Missouri State

---6/11 Afternoon update: Texas and A&M are in contact with and negotiating with the Big Ten and presumably other conferences. My friend is in the middle of it, and told me that Texas is playing the "we don't want to join a conference that just broke our conference up" card. Also,

It is clear that there is internal division within Texas. Some are pretty emotional. There is anger that the Big Ten broke up their conference. Clearly others within Texas involved in the Texas push to the Big Ten.

Delaney broke the seal with Nebraska. Big Ten confident that less emothional heads will prevail, and Texas will realize the Big Ten offers the best package for Texas and college football as a whole.

Definite change of expectation that everything will shake out today. General surprise and excitement that Nebraska has gone to Big Ten.

This is awesome to watch!

So who's a more legit source? Purple Book Cat or CHip Brown?

Because Chip Brown has been steadfast in his assertion that UT is not going to the big 10

maybe chip brown has good information. but man it is annoying to listen to this texas schmuck everyday. i have no idea, but i hope its purple book cat.

Well, there's no way Chip Brown was right about Texas having no contact with the Big Ten. That's just not possible. PBC has provided a lot more dimension to it and hasn't really said what "will" happen. He's just laid out the plan but still gave the caveat that negotiations could always fall apart.

I'm not saying that I believe the expected outcome that PBC has talked about, but I also don't buy the simple, cut and dry plan that Chip Brown has been reporting.

I do not see any way that Texas follows Nebraska to the Big 10, as opposed to going with Oklahoma to the Pac 10. I don't think Texas cares much at all for Nebraska or where they end up, as evidenced by their continual pushing around of Nebraska that has taken place since the Big 12 became a conference.

Nebraska wanted equal revenues from TV contracts, Texas did not. Texas won.

Nebraska wanted the conference championship game to alternate between Dallas and Kansas City, Texas did not. Texas won.

Nebraska's ultimate destination does not influence the Longhorns in the slightest. Oklahoma, on the other hand, matters to Texas. So, which makes the most sense: Texas and Nebraska to the Big 10, or Texas, Tech, Oklahoma, OK St, and Colorado to the Pac 10? I think the answer is pretty obvious.

I love the Big 10 and I was/am all for expansion, but I'm not a fan of how complicated this is getting. I guess there was no way it wasn't going to get complicated when you are just pulling teams from conferences.

I also don't think how it seems like the Big 10 is trying to strongarm Texas and ND into joining the Big 10. In a way its brilliant and cunning, but in another way it sucks because its leaving a lot of other teams in the dust.

Anyways, you guys have all discussed this way more than I've thought about it so feel free to correct me if I'm wrong about any of this.

Yeah it must be brutal to sit there and know that your conference is only improving and your school is going to bring in a ton more money.

I didn't say it wasn't bad as a Big Ten fan. As a college sports fan or just a fan of colleges in general, it's not really as good. I guess I just didn't expect this whole thing to be as catastrophic as it has been. I am pretty sure Jim Delany and his guys had to have some idea the effect this was gonig to have on other parts of college football.

Dennis Dodds just tweeted that Delany told Dan Beebe the Big 10 is done raiding its conference. Which would suggest Missouri to the Big 10 is not happening.

technically beebe said that, not delaney. and beebe is [expletive], so im not sure how much validity that comment has coming from him. could be absolutely true, i just think beebe is oblivious to everything happening.

It seems weird to me that he'd tell him that, but whatever. Beebe spent half his speech blaming the people before him for this. He's such a goon.

Yeah, Beebe is so dumb, it's hard to believe anything he says. Also not sure what Delaney has to gain by saying that.

ETA: What conference? If all the reports are true, there isn't a Big 12 left anymore.

Texas too.

Does that mean stage 2 of Delaney's master plan is to cripple the Big East into submission, forcing ND to join up?

probably. delaney is gonna be loved and hated by a lot of people for all this.

The funniest/saddest thing about Beebe:

Every Chip Brown tweet, vague rumor, AD press release, etc has a multi-page thread of its own on the KU message boards i read.

Dan Beebe's presser has one thread with a handful of posts.

Everybody knows the guy is a stooge with absolutely nothing meaningful to say right now.

So basically Mizzou really got the shaft in this deal?

Well if you believe Alden they haven't been trying to leave the conference at all.

He said "My understanding is there aren't any other conference members considered by the Big Ten." But Joe Schad reported that Delany didn't call Beebe until this morning to tell him about Nebraska. And honestly, why bother with Beebe?

Nebraska joins the Big Ten on July 1, 2011, though the BTN will cover some Nebraska sports in 2010-11. Delany also said that he presumes they'll add a championship football game.

Me either, since there's already been a contradiction between what he and Perlman said today. My thought is that Mizzou has been quiet and is saying the company line since they're not in control. If the South goes to the Pac-10, the Big 10 will have to respond and Mizzou stands a decent chance of being involved. If they don't, then the 10 they have now aren't so much worse than what they had. Nebraska has some football cache and Colorado has a decent market, but neither were at the head of the conference in that regard.
