White Sox sign Putz for 1 year/$3 million.

Hendry is striking out on everyone so far this offseason.

Maybe they didn't like what they saw?

I think it is funny that Hendry gets crap no matter what. Signs folks early, FU Jim! Possibly waiting to see things materialize, FU Jim!

I'm as ready as the next guy to send Jimbo to the unemployment line, but this is really nothing. Would it have been nice to take a cheap gamble on Putz? Sure. But I wouldn't have paid for then $3 million and it may have been Putz's choice. I won't pretend to know what the Sox bullpen looks like beyond Jenks because I don't care, but maybe he thought he'd be higher on the depth chart there.

I'd much rather have Demp at 4/52 than have Lohse at the 4/42 the Cards have him at. I think he's a good comp for this discussion because he was locked up at the end of 2008 to a 4 year deal over the same time period Demp is. He's getting that with a much spottier history than Demp and 1 really good year.

You're completely right. Jim is having an outstanding offseason. We have no right to complain about anything.

I'd be ok with $12 million/year for Sheets only if that's how much he could earn with vesting options like IP or starts.

Putz could be a good recclaimation project for the right price.

Not tickled pink about Cameron, but I guess he's the best option at this point.

The rest I don't want anywhere near this team.

So, that means Marlon Byrd, Rick Ankiel, and Scott Podsednik will all be Cubs by Opening Day. I can feel it.

edit: Never mind about Putz. Didn't see he was signed.

A little overly sensitive? I don't criticize Hendry for every move he makes. Nor do I think he deserves to get fired just yet. I just think it is funny, in a tragic kind of way, to watch him crashing and burning this off season. He seems to have conditioned nearly every off season move on trading Milton Bradley, and if that was not enough he telegraphed and made it known to the entire league that he was desperate to move Bradley. Not exactly a recipe for success.

I'll predict that Marlon Byrd gets Gary Mathews Jr type of money and the team that signs him, ends up regretting it. Not sure why people still get eager or obessesed with players who haven't done much of anything until their contract year.

I dont know man, I mean honestly, who thought Mathews would get the kind of money he did or even Bradley for that matter.

That has always baffled me, too. If I were an ML GM I'd stay far away from signing any FA who's done nothing until his contract year and then has a huge season. About 8 times out of 10 he's more of the bust than the superstar.

Is that what you've found in your research?

He gave a number, I'm sure he didn't just make that up off the top of his head with no real evidence to back it. erik is far too rational and thoughtful of a poster to do that.
