Sheets reportedly wants $12m/year, so if the Cubs can't afford a guy who actually pitched last year...

Or didn't want to resign a 5 inning oft-injured pitcher. I'm not saying Sheets is any better but still.

The four most beautiful words in the English language: Former Cub Aaron Miles.

6 words would be preferable. "Never was a Cub Aron Miles."

Cameron is obviously the priority, and he knows he's likely maximizing his value to wait until the Cubs have dealt Bradley and can truly start bidding for his services. I wouldn't worry too much about us having to resort to the likes of Ankiel or Pods just yet.

I've been saying I'd be extremely interested in Putz, provided he's not asking for too much. He's a real shutdown guy when healthy, and it's definitely worth watching him throw a few times and getting the medical reports.

I know that Ankiel and Pods are nothing more than plan E and F, but if it came down with it, wed probably be no worse off re signing Reed Johnson and platooning him with Fuld or Colvin, or even Hoffpauir if they dont mind keeping Kosuke in RF. Id rather explore a trade for DeJesus than any of those options.

I would assume we should've have to worry about overpaying Ankiel because scott boras is his agent and supposedly he's not seeking a short term deal but is seeking a long term deal for big money. I doubt the Cubs get approval for huge money for Ankiel. As for sheets, i highly doubt he gets 12 million, I can see him signing for 5-7 million plus huge incentives. I wouldn't mind it if the cubs signed him for 4-5 million plus another 5 million in incentives that depend on innings pitched.

The problem is that there might be 10-15 other teams interested in Cameron's services, especially once it's determined they can't have Bay or Holliday. The longer Hendry waits, the less likely Cameron will be there. It's not like Hendry can afford to overpay Cameron since the money he thought he would be saving for Bradley probably isn't going to be there.

Im assuming Cameron is well aware of this, and isnt going to jump all over the first deal offered. Id be surprised if he signs before Bay and Holliday.

Actually Aron Miles really never was a Cub. :D

I know Cameron is well aware of this, and he probably won't be signed before those guys. It's Hendry that you have to worry about. After Cameron, the options in CF become Ankiel and Pods.

What will Hendry do if he can't trade Bradley before Cameron signs elsewhere. Are you ready for some Scott Podsednik? Because Hendry will probably get Bradley traded even if it means paying the rest of his salary. And I'll bet he has that deal on the table with someone already, he just isn't signing off on that one yet because he probably knows that deal will probably cost him his job. If he can find any sucker willing to eat even 15-20% of his contract, Ricketts might feel a little more patience with him.

If Hendry signs Cameron, he loses even more leverage with Bradley because now he has 4 starting outfielders on his roster.

I honestly don't believe that Hendry views keeping Bradley as an option is even a remote possibility at this point.

Bruce Levine (ESPN Chicago) is reporting in his "Baseball Beat" that Hendry has met with agents of Ben Sheets, as well as Marlon Byrd, Mike Cameron, Rick Ankiel, Scott Podsednik, and J.J Putz.

Every time I see it I get a little more terrified.

I remember reading one report that said that who Hendry picked up to play CF depended entirely on how much of Bradley's contract he would end up eating. If he got someone to eat 10m of the 22 remaining, maybe he feels like he'd have enough to sign Cameron.

If he can get 8m picked up from the 22m remaining, maybe he feels like he could get Byrd or Ankiel.

If he can only get 2-4 million picked up, maybe that's when he resigns himself to Podsednik.

The scariest part is I haven't really read any reports, that I actually believe, that have keeping Bradley as an option.

It clearly isn't, which is insane.

I have the same feeling I had before Hendry signed J. Jones. I mean, Pods just fits right into Hendry's MO. Left handed, CFer, "lead-off" hitter, "fast", etc...

I'm hoping the seemingly recent fascination with RBI (re: Bradley) will steer him away from Podsednik.

Hopefully the reason Bradley hasn't been moved yet is because the 2-4 million-then-Podsednik option is the only one available at the moment, and just like us, Hendry hates the idea of Podsednik.

I fully expect Hendry to offer Cameron a multi-year deal that will end up being way higher than market value once we see what Bay/Holliday make (see: Ryan Dempster deal)
